The third stop of this year's World Series of Poker Circuit ended Wednesday
when Vinnie Vinh defeated Men "The Master" Nguyen in the $10,000 Main Event.
The field for that tournament was on the small side, but the events leading
up to it were a smashing success by any standard. Caesars Indiana will go
down as a record-breaking Circuit stop in a number of ways. The initial
event had the largest field ever for any stop on the WSOP Circuit, the
ladies' event had the largest field ever of any LIPS Tour tournament, and
the $1000 Mega Satellite the night before the Main Event was also the
largest ever. Much like the Circuit's initial stop in Tunica this season,
the local player base responded to the new event being held in their back
yard. Almost every final table at Caesars Indiana featured at least one
local player, and most of them had more than one. If Harrah's decides to
bring the Circuit back next year they can count on a great response from the
locals.
The Caesars Indiana Circuit stop also marked the return of the crew that ran
the Tunica stop, headed up by Tournament Director Johnny Grooms. The
response to their organization, much like it was in Tunica, was
overwhlemingly positive. This is a good sign for the WSOP Circuit after the
Harrah's Las Vegas Circuit stop was run by an in-house crew and received a
lukewarm response. Grooms runs a tight ship and looks out for the players'
best interests, and this approach pays dividends in player loyalty.
