Last year saw the debut of the World Series of Poker
Circuit tournaments in five locations around the United States. Much like the
original WSOP, each stop on the Circuit offered tournaments in at various
buy-in levels. No-limit hold'em dominated the schedule, but a few limit
hold'em tournaments were also offered at most of the Circuit events. After a
few initial glitches in tournament structures were ironed out, the Circuit
proved to be quite successful. Last year 11,079 participants fought it out
over $17.1 million in prizes. Some of the biggest names in poker made the
final tables, and more than a few amateurs took home big-time prize money.
Fresh on the heels of the 2005 World Series of Poker, the 2005-06 WSOP Circuit
season kicks off in Tunica, Mississippi, on August 11th at Grand Casino
Tunica. WSOP owner Harrah's is expanding the schedule of tournaments this year
after acquiring Caesar's Entertainment and all its properties. Where last
year's events were exclusively Limit and No-Limit Hold'em tournaments, this
year's Circuit events will also feature Pot-Limit Omaha and Pot-Limit Hold'em.
The August event in Tunica, which will replace Grand Casino Tunica's annual
Mid-American Poker Classic, is the first of 12 stops along the way. Here's the
full schedule for this year's Circuit stops:
