I think never showing your cards is generally good for everyone because showing your cards will affect how your opponent will play against you and you will have to change your strategy according to that. For example, if you show a bluff, he will mostly likely be looser afterwards. Or, if you show a monster hand you go all-in with, I agree that he will give you respect for your big raises.

If you never show your cards, he will never know what you had and you don't risk letting him figure out how you play.

However, if you are really smart, and can change your strategy accordingly, (like showing a bluff in one hand, and playing the hand exactly the same way when you have a monster), it might pay you off
