I agree you should buy in for the max at a ring game. If you are playing scared at a table in this case .25/.50 drop down to the dime/quarter game. You should never get into a ring game where the amounts of raises, pots and bets scare you. Don't be ashamed to drop down into a micro limit game. I started at .02/.04 and as my bankroll started to improve I went up a few levels. I remember when I thought the 1/2 tables were huge. As far as players sucking out on you at micro limit tables: This will happen alot down in these levels, so my advice is if you believe you have the best hand pre-flop don't be scared to raise substantially, the standard 3x or 5x the big blind is not going to work in a micro limit game like this. So say you have JJ in late position, you have a few limpers and the action comes to you, don't be afraid to bet $1-$2 into this pot. If an opponent sucks out on you with say K/rag or A/rag atleast you will have made him pay for it. But with say a 3x raise that would only be 8 cents, so you will have plenty of suck outs. Anyway good luck and change your style of play a little bit when you get down to the micro limits. Don't be afraid to raise 15x the blinds when you feel you have the best of it.
