One thing I find both sad and curious is how certain players whose biggest poker accomplishment consists of placing in a few freerolls seem to take such delight in denigrating Gus Hansen's ability and style, almost invariably attributing his success to luck.

What they don't take into account is that TV distorts the way he plays. I've heard from people who have played against him live that he is very aggressive and extremely hard to read because of how he mixes up his play. However, on TV, because they edit out the straightforward hands, it looks like he's doing unusual things all the time whereas he actually folds most of the time, although possibly less often than the average player.
