Pocket 10's - I will try and see the flop cheap and hope for a set OR all under card rags, then make a bet. The trouble is that most of the time you will see at least one overcard, which you then have to play cautiously.
KJ and getting top pair - You have a decent kicker, but if you see a strong re-raise, it's time to let them go. In your case the other guy might have AK, KQ, 55, 77. I agree that playing 5-7 is BS, but I've seen some players gamble and get a big payoff. Part of mixing it up.
