Default When is it ok to go all in?

(I hope this is in the right forum new here)

Just wondering what are the situations you want to go all in? Last night made a stupid mistake of going all in, in a freeroll (im still learning). 50 people were left out of the 5000, blinds were 12,000 I had 400,000. I had JJ with the BB 3 people called the BB I moved all in.

Flop came out ac,10h,jc turn was 8c, river was 3c. Lost to ace spades queen of clubs.

I was just wondering at what times do you want to go all in and when do you not.

I'll go All-in when I am trying to isolate an opponent OR after I've made my hand (straight, flush, boat and sometimes with a set). It looks like your opponent had a flop in his favor then outdrew your set. These things happen in poker. I would have played the JJ the same way.

So did I play my jacks correctly and just get unlucky?

What places cashed? What was the average chip stack? Did 400k put you in the top couple of places? JJ is a really good hand, but your only a slight favorite against AQ and AK. If you were in good position to cash and the guy who moved all in has been playing solid cards all night and had more chips then me I would have folded. (Or did you move all in preflop. I'm not even sure I understand exactly what you said) If I'm a lower stack I might have moved all in preflop to try to win it out right. I also might have just made a medium size raise preflop. Then when I might have moved all in to push out the draws and would have lost.

So as for your question did you play it correctly? I say it depends. Either way when you hit your trips it would have been hard to lay that down at any point so you were in trouble.

uhm if you made 220th you got like .40 cents I was at $1.55. My stack was a little less then half that of most players at the table. I had only three people that called the BB. I kind of figured that if people were just calling they would not have an AK or AQ. So I moved all in preflop.

I would have went all in pre-flop if I was half the average stack. You were already in the money. You had won a big $1.55 at that already, a very big cash. Plus you got the flop you want. Unfortunatly he was able to catch his draw on you.

Even if you had just seen this flop, after flopping the set, he would have put all his chips in the pot with TP, straight draw, and backdoor (royal)-flush draw. There was nothing you could do to change this hand.

When you are sure you have the best hand or are trying to bluff, obviously.

Is it the right move to go all in on a bluff or would it be better to bet a certain percentage of your stack?

I'd rather just bet a good portion of my stack than go all in on a bluff.
