Default How/why did you begin to play online poker?

A recent post from "How you came to BPP" got me thinking. How did everyone come to playing online poker?

I got caught up in watching it on TV and found myself trying to figure out what people at the table were thinking as they played their cards. I think the show that really got me to thinking about playing was celebrity poker. With the commentary you got a lot of poker insight that didn't come with the other shows. The celebs are also more likely to play like me than the pros anyway.

Last summer, I was watching WSOP on ESPN and saw an ad. I decided to try FTP.net and got bored with the loose play on the play money ring tables. I went to play money sngs an played those for awhile.

The play money MTTs on FTP fill up to quickly so I began to look for other sites. In looking for other sites I found poker forums and that began the journey I am on today.

I always played in the Online casinos pretty much since they came out. The bonuses they gave out were just great. It was like giving me free money. So when one of my favorite online casinos (Gaming Club) came out with Gaming Club poker I quickly signed up. I played in some play games to learn how to play Holdem. Then I signed up since they offered something like deposit $20 and get a free $50. I think I finished about even after I hit my raked hands requirement but I kept my money in there. Shorlty after that I discovered freerolls b/c Prima Poker sites were offering $50 buck 10 person SNG freerolls. This was before they even had MTT at Prima. I use to clean up in these freerolls. This was before Prima got huge and there wasnt that much traffic and I could enter a couple a night and if i got lucky i cleared $50 a night playing in them. Eventually Prima came out with MTT and MTT freerolls and I have been hooked ever since.

Ive played a lot of blackjack a while ago but that got rather boring. So i was invited to play a private game with a couple of my buddies and i started playing holdem and they showed me online poker. Ever since then ive been addicted to this game.

While I was in highschool and bored out of my mind in class I decided to play cards instead of listening to the teacher. This was about 5 years ago. I was sitting in a health class and playing BJ in the back of the classroom for money while the teacher had no clue. Then we started playing poker games and then holdem. It was well worth it though. Not only did I not have to listen to the teacher talk about stuff I could care less about, but I won money. Then I guess I just started to hear about online poker so I went on poker stars a couple months later and started playing for play money. Second best decision I ever mayed. First is another story for another day.

How did you manage to play poker and black Jack in class while your teacher was teaching. That is quite impressive. Maybe even more impressive then your back-to-back wins.

Our classroom was set up with large desks that spread across the classroom. They are like science classroom lab tables but longer. Their were like 3 in the whole classroom and I was in the back. With kids in front of me and since we put the cards on a notbook on our laps the teacher couldn't see them. The only time we ever almost got caught was when I won a $10 poker hand and said hell yeah. The teacher asked what was going on and I said I just love this class. He couldn't respond to that.

When I first started playing it was only for amusement playing with play chips because I was 15 at the time. Well, 4 years later and now I'm playing for real money and loving it even more.

I got interested while in college, when my buddy and I started watching WPT on travel channel. Of course, all the Pokerstars advertisements and loved the prospects of winning money for free (yeah I thought that qualifying for that round 2 tourney where only the top 9 paid was awesome). Played on there for a bit, then stopped for a few months. Later on I started up again once I was playing poker in the dorm rooms and the rest is history.
