I am always happy to see pocket aces and how I play them depends on several things.
First is it a freeroll or a buyin? In a freeroll you are more likely than not to get a caller with an all in bet especially early on in the game where a group of players have the strategy early on of gouing big or going home. They will calll any all in early with almost anything in hopes of doubling up and they do this in several tourneys at the same time. As time passes in a freeroll and the blinds are going up you are still likely to get a desperation call from someone that has maybe a AJ or Arag and this gives you a huge preflop advantage.
This of course is unlikely to work in a buyin so the hand must be played differently and then chip count and posaition will dictate the correct amount to bet.
I will say just one thing on that and that is that some kind of bet is required here to narrow the field whether it be a single BB raise, which will eliminate the blinds if they have rags, or a 3x or 4x bet to try to either take the blinds or narrow it to a caller with AK, AQ, ARAG, or a high pocket pair, all of which you have a substantial advantage over. |
