Default Taking a break

I decided to take a break from poker. I started to play it so much I started to find myself bored at the tables and I decided I should leave until it has my full attention again.

Ive read the super system but it does not have very much info on tourny style play only a few pages. Anyone know of a good book to better your game in tourny style play? Any other sources of information or tips would be appreciated too.

Good idea to take a break once in a while. I had gone on one major Tilt because the boredom snuck up on me and I played higher stakes to get the same excitement. Next thing I knew, couple of hundred gone. I took a few weeks off and read up my old books and am Back in the Saddle again. Good luck.

yes, please, take a nice long break. So that in the meantime, I can collect all those nice pots you'll be missing out on.

Breaks are always good. The fish aren't going anywhere; there's no reason to feel like you have to play every single day. Usually you come back from a break much fresher, and have thought about your game while you weren't playing, which makes you do better when you return.

For tourney strategy, you can't beat Harrington on Hold'Em - there are two volumes out now, with the third volume coming soon. Big books, but a lot of that is hand examples, so it's not something that is overwhelming.

Also Phil Gordon's Little Green Book is supposed to be good, but perhaps a little on the basic side. Someone who has played a ton of tournies probably won't pick up a lot of new stuff. (I haven't read it yet though; that's just what I was told).

The last break i took was in august last year.
I've got a break from all and just relax in a 2 weeks vacation on the Black Sea.
When i come back took me another week to play like i did before.

It never hurts to take a break - you should be re-energized (poker wise) and refocused at the tables when you come back.

The closest thing I have come to a break has been the past month or so. I really haven't played any poker, other than the BBP events. Hoping to get back into it, when school slows down a bit......if ever.....

Yea the LGB has a lot of basics in it, but I had never read it before so I decided to check it out. HoH is amazing, I'm rereading Vol. 2 right at the moment. I'm actually in the middle of a "break" right now. I'm playing minimal amounts and trying to get some more reading in. I haven't read quite a few books and I really want to be on top of my game. I'm not losing or in jeopardy of losing the house, it's just I want to reevaluate my game and take it to the next level.

Breaks are good whether they last a week or a month. Focus on what you feel you need to improve.

Getting bored is probably as bad as tilting. You try bad hands to spice things up and that will kil you.

I have been toying with the idea of either taking a break or giving up the game entirely......it just seems that its getting harder to find a table with good players....and I know current wisdom would dictate that you want a table of fish but I have seen too many fish winning at the river on hands that a good player would not have even bothered to see the flop and it gets exasperating.
