Default What's the most valuable tip you ever got?

Mine was to build my game starting from a solid tight-aggressive base. Fortunately, I got this - and heeded it - quite soon after I started. Like a lot of newbies, I had started off playing any two cards that seemd decent. And frankly, I wasn't doing very well. So when I saw this advice - I don't even remember who it came from except that it was a well-known pro - I decided to give it a try.

This led to other valuable tips like having patience and learning which hands to play in which seats, but the base for me was as noted.

Mine was dont look at your cards before its your turn to act, you give away so much infomation if you do and now that I know that its really easy to figure out what other people have if then look before its their turn

i think ad;s piece of advice is the best...but that "don;t look at the cards before is your turn" sounds nice...but f you are a readable player u should give your information to the oponent during a game...so if your are a good player u cannot be read after your face at the poker room and you can looka at the cards whenever u feel like..

Before you play any real money tournaments, make sure you know when it's right to fold a poocket ace or pocket pair. Otherwise, you will overcommit and get sucked out by simple hands.

The most valuable tip I ever got? Know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run, you never count your money when you're sitting at the table, there'll be time enough for countin', when the dealin's done.

Default this is the tip

PAatience is the key to successful poker. It is better to wait for the good hand and play it, than play many hands, and try to bluff it. Or something like that, some guy in the chatroom told me that. I thought i was kinda funny at first. But yeah, i learned to be patient when playing poker, and that helped me more than anything. Cause im the gus hansen type playing every hand seeing a flop and sometiems that can get you into trouble when you have like 9 5 diamonds and flop comes 5 10 J diamonds , and you put your chips in and someone calls with a higher flush. That's why you need to be patient andnot play like Gus, unless you're very cautious, of what the other player could have. I've got myself into a ton of mess playing crappy hands and hitting a perfect flop then just realizing that I am beat by a higher two pair, better kicker, three of a kind better kicker. Stuff like that. so guys learn to be patient and i'll see ya at the tables. God Bless you.

You know, Dan Fogelberg wrote a poker song, too. It's called "The Nature of the Game." It's a really cool, bluesy acoustic tune. I've seen him perform it live a couple of times, but he's never released it.

"It's the cards you fold that make you old, but that's the nature of the game."

Buy Low and Sell High.

Buy a decent Poker book. I bought a couple before I came accross a good one with a Starting Hand Guide plus some post Flop analysis. Good for me at the time and I got it cheap at the Half Price Book Store for $8. It paid for itself in a couple of days.

Join a forum and analyze hands. Very helpful.
