Ok, I have held several tournies at my place, and I am curious to see what you all do for blinds, and when to increase them. We play 5 denominations, with a total of about $1200 in chips. I have been starting at 5 - 10, and then doubling (approximately) every 25 minutes. Everytime, I always get someone bitching about how quickly the blinds go up, or how slowly the blinds go up. Also, I get a couple of players say they want the blinds to increase every 1 or 2 times around the table. Seems that everyone has their opinion, but what is the general consensus on when to raise the blinds on a 1200 dollar starting chip count? Just curious to see what you all do.

The live tourneys I've played generally increase blinds every 20 minutes, but they don't always double. Usually, they jump to 30/60 rather than 40/80. This also allows for chip exchanges into higher denominations each hour. At the first hour break, the pit boss usually goes around to each player and exchanges their low denomination chips for 50 and 100 denomination. The same thing happens at the second hour break, but the denominations are 500/1000. This helps players continue making bets within the blinds and speeds play. For instance, this is a typical progression: 10/20 20/40 30/60 50/100 100/200 200/400 300/600 500/1000 etc. Hope this helps.

We do every 30 minutes. We like to play long ass tourneys. Each one will average 3 hours. You can't play a good full feeling game unless you play for around that. Even with 6 or 7 people playing.

That is the right time to increase the levels. With my live tournaments i use 5500 starting chips and the blinds increase 15 mins. Starting small and big blind is 25-50. Its pretty weird but that is what everyone voted. We have about 27 people playing.

Starting stacks of 200bbs and increase every 20 minutes double throw in an ante 6th level. 2000 starting stacks 5/10 10/20 20/40 40/80 50/100 75/150 100/200/50 150/300/75 200/400/100 300/600/150 500/1000/250 Makes for a wild FT with the 1k bb and 250 antes, the antes are rather large but thats how we do it. -ad

We play every Tuesday, which is a work night for most, so we move through the blinds at 18-20 minutes at most. We start at 10-25 for some reason, but it works out fine. Then we bump up to: 25-50 50-100 100-200 200-400 and so on...
