When I'm playing one on one (oh baby, my favorite kind of game), I look at every hand as the hand you may have to go all in with. I have no problem throwing the worst hands away pre-flop if I'm the small blind, because why put yourself in the position of starting to invest in a hand that most likely can't win? Of course, it also depends on how much you think the other player might succumb to pressure if you raise.

Another thing I suggest is to slow the play down. Heads up action can get pretty fast online. You don't want to make a stupid mistake just because you weren't taking the time to think about it. Plus, if you take a little time to make your move, your opponent might think you're hesitant because your hand is weak. Remember that when you've got a great hand; it might make a difference.
