Default Ten Commandments Of Poker

Here are my TEN COMMANDMENTS of POKER!!!

All Commandments are Rules I live by and are subject to situation.

#1 - NEVER GO ALL IN BEFORE THE FLOP

#2 - NEVER PLAY OTHER PERSONS HAND ( PLAY YOUR OWN CARDS )

#3 - NEVER RISK ALL YOUR CHIPS UNLESS YOU HAVE THE NUTS!!!

#4 - LET OTHERS BET INTO YOU!

#5 - NEVER BLUFF WITH ALL YOUR CHIPS!!!

#6 - NEVER CHASE, BE PATIENT, FOLD FOLD FOLD, WAIT FOR YOUR HAND!!!

#7 - DO NOT PLAY RAGS. IF YOU HAVE CHIP LEAD AND PLAY RAGS YOU
WILL NOT BE CHIP LEADER FOR LONG.

#8 - DO NOT PLAY LOW POCKETS IF THE BLINDS ARE RAISED! ( MORE THAN A FIFTH OF YOUR CHIPS )

#9 - BE AGGRESSIVE....IF YOUR FAT IN CHIPS, BE EVEN MORE AGGRESSIVE.

#10 - LAST AND STILL VERY IMPORTAND. WAIT, WATCH, AND DO NOTHING
UNTILL YOU START HITTING ON THE BOARD. YOU CAN'T WIN IF YOU
ARE NOT CATCHING.....WAIT TILL U ARE!!!

These rules are how I try to play. Different situations may cause you to be more objective in how these rules apply. I have had much success following these rules. I have discussed these rules with several proffessionals and they have there own rules.

I would love to hear your rules. Please share with the rest of the site. These rules have nothing to do with how to pick out the Donkey or when to slow play, or even reading another player. They are the basics of the game. A good start heading for the Final table.

Good luck,
Dan

It sounds like you are a pretty tight player, Dan. I agree with most of those rules, but, as you said, some of them are situation-dependent. The only one that really doesn't work for me is the last one. I'm not a big believer in lucky streaks, and sometimes I'm inclined to make my own action if things are going too slow and I'm getting low in chips. I'd rather go out swinging than go out as Broomcorn's Uncle.

However, I agree completely with the central theme of your post: Patience! As long as you have a decent stack, patience will get a player through until the cards hit. If that player is too short-stacked, though, patience sometimes isn't enough.

Default The Ten Commandments of Poker

Thou shalt have no other games before me.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, nor any likeness of any player, not even Clonie Gowen.

Thou shalt not take the name of they Lord God in vain, for
the Lord will not hold him guiltless who hath taken his name in vain, and will smite him with 7, 2 offsuit.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, or at least until 9:00 EST.

Honor thy pocket pairs, that thy chips may be tall on the table God has given thee.

Thou shalt not kill, even the player who sucked out on the river and made your trip kings worthless.

Thou shalt not commit adultery (unless the other player is really, really hot).

Thou shalt not steal the blinds with a large pre-flop bet.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy opponent in the form of telling other players how small his personal parts are.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's chips, nor his pocket rockets, nor his position, nor his ability to read you like a book. Oh, and don't forget, no covetting his ass.

This may be good advice for a limit game but if you are playing no limit you have to play the other persons cards because you have to know when you can get them off a hand to take the pot, and also because all your chip can be at stake in one hand.

Thanks, yes I did just write that. (Although I had to Google the 10 commandments. It's been....oh...a hundred years since I read them.)

Thanks for the feedback, Trip. I aim to please!

<clapping>

Bravo, Think. Those are hilarious. You literally made me laugh out loud with several of them.

I'm a little disappointed that you left out the Doppleganger commandment, though.

#4 - LET OTHERS BET INTO YOU!

I really like your list, but I would love to hear why this one made this list... You sound like a tight player, and maybe I am just not understanding it, but I haven't had much luck letting someone bet into you when you are sitting on a strong hand/powerhouse.

I used to think the same way. Get QQ or something strong, and then wait for someone to bet before getting aggressive with the hand. Unfortunately, every time I do this, an K is flopped, or some better stronger hand is flopped, and my strong hand gets zilch. Maybe just my experiences, but when I get a strong hand, I dont wait for someone to start getting aggressive. I bet and hopefully get the trash hands out of the hand.

Thoughts?
