Default Flushed by a boat on the bubbly river

Okay, this was in BBP League game #3, 7/12/2006.

Four players left about 90 hands into the tourney, blinds at 100/200, tourney pays through third place.

godlikev -- SB
Lytspeed -- BB (yours truly)
gooder
track1697

SB and BB post blinds, cards are dealt. I have . Gooder raises $400, track folds, godlike raises All In ($2960), I call All In ($2120). Gooder folds (wisely.)

I show my , godlike shows and has me beat pre-flop.

The flop is . Godlike flops the trip and maintains dominance.

The turn is ! I've hit the nut flush and I lead the hand.

The river is . Godlike gets a full house on the river, and I'm out of the tournament on the bubble.

So, now that I've taken the time to really analyze this, I'm not sure it was a bad beat. I should have considered the fact that I was on the bubble, and realized that could be beaten right out of the gate by any pocket pair plus AK and AQ. The fact that they were suited made the cards stronger, and I did get lucky and hit my flush on the turn. But godlike was lucky too and hit an unexpected boat.

What do you guys think? Was this a bad beat? Did I use bad strategy? Did I make the right play and just get unlucky? I'm open to hearing any feedback you have.

Thanks.

I have to say that you probably could've waited for a better spot to risk it all. You still have about 10 BBs left, and bubbling is something you REALLY don't want to do. AJs is an ok hand to open raise with, but the pot was raised, and re-raised all in.....HELLO? Alarms should be going off right about now! Yes, you indeed got very lucky to catch a flush, but godlike deserved to win that hand, especially after hitting a set on the flop. I mean COME ON! That was a bad play on your part. Well played godlike. If you won that hand Lytspeed, THAT would have been a bad beat.

I don;t think that that was a bad beat becaouse i dominated u preflop(obvios)..and that was a preflop bet.so then all 5 cards count in the finish..if i called your flush on turn and hit the boat on river then it was a bad beat...and trips what means "a bull's pa-toot"?and yes i play tight..i like that kind of play in a sng.

I think that agaist any other player you could make that call because thier is a good chance that you will be in a coin flip and you need to pick a spot soon. Because even though you have 10 BB, once the blinds go up on titan they really go up in a hurry. But since you were agaist godlikev who didnt commit all of his chip PF without a high pair for the whole tournament, I think it would have been best to lay it down.

I have to agree, Trip, and that's why I posted this for everyone's feedback. When I sat down and looked it over, I realized that the fatal flaw was forgetting about the bubble. If I had paid attention to that, I would have played it much tighter.

As godlikev says, I was dominated from the start, and as Trip says, I was lucky to even catch the flush.

Nice play, godlikev.

I always ask myself questions like this before I play, like.....WHat am I trying to accomplish by calling, raising, re-raising, etc..... Do I want to sweeten the pot? Weed out limpers? Isolate the raiser? Usually when I find the right question, the answer is obvious.
