Default Luck vs Skill

Well Poker is a game of cards, so both factors are present.

But someone that wins a lot, how much is really skill, how much is luck.

I am for the skill bit. But I know lots of people would go for luck. (like, if your feeling lucky you could call...)

What do you all think?

Its luck, we can't know which cards will appear.

I lost soooooooooooo many time with AA or AK. I win one time 27 vs KK lol. Poker is imprevisible.

The skill is just to know the games and some math will help a bit. But at the ends, it's just luck !

I'd say it's about 75% skill and 25% luck. If you're not catching anything, you sit still and wait. That's part of poker skill, being able to resist playing for the sake of playing. Another aspect of skill is the decision making process. You get AA. That's luck. But now how do you play them? Slow? Go all in? That's where having a strategy, reading the other players, and calculating odds come in.

There's always going to be the ocassional suck out on the river--sometimes in your favor, sometimes not. But solid play will win over random lucky breaks most of the time, I think.

I think that luck can win you a hand, but skill gets you into the $$$.
Bad luck or lack of skill can get you out in a hurry.

I'm always glad to bring a little laughter into your life, trip! (I still haven't figured out that word though. Is it part impenetrable, part invisible? Part impressive and part indivisible? Part empresario and part visibility? I'm still mulling this one over.)

I think that poker is all skill in the longterm because in a ring game if you play enough the cards will even out eventually so its what you do with the cards you get and how you can exact the most money from other players or loose the least. As for tournaments you cant win the tournament with out luck but you cant win without some type of skill to. And if someone got Aces cracked by an underpair in a tourny, they have to realize that if the won with Aces the last four times they would be "lucky" to win a fifth time because they would be going agaist the odds.

As for imprevisble, I have no idea what it means either.

haha, I know, so many possibilities, and in my opinion, it appears to me like its a combination of impressive, and invisible. But, in the context he uses it in, and excuse me while I crack up laughing. hahahahaha,, i think what hes trying to say, is the word unpredictable.
