How often do you get a particular feeling while playing, like you're going to make your straight or flush? When you get a feeling like this, do you pay attention to it or ignore it? If you go by your intuition or hunches, do they pay off?

Hmmmm, well, I don't ever get a feeling I will make a straight or flush. But, if I'm drawing to one, and the price is right, I go for it most every time. So I guess, technically, I ALWAYS have that feeling...hahahah. But seriously, it will depend on if I like my pot odds enough to continue with the hand.

I don't like to rely on my "psychic feeling" when I'm playing poker, b/c I don't like kidding myself. B/c god forbid I ever, "get a feeling" and go with it, and I'm wrong, I will be so PO'ed!!

I never rely on the kind of hunches that you are talking about, but if I were to feeling that someone is weak then I would go on a hunch like that and move in on them, I relay on those kind of hunches all the time.

Often, when I have a hunch about a starting hand, I will ignore it and go with proper playing strategy, then growl when the hand would have turned into a flush, or straight, or trips. However, there have been plenty of times when I went with hunches, wound up overcommitting myself in a pot, and lost half my chips.

I try to stick to logic when I play, but I do occasionally play a hunch, mostly because it helps me be a little less predictable.

I get these hunches all the time, and i usually go with them. About 90% of the time i am right, and will hit my card, and can perdict the turn card and most of the time i can predict what my opponent has between two hands. If you dont follow your gut what else are you gonna do? Playing the odds and percentages can help you out but its that gut feeling down there, that really gives you the edge, and makes it all worth playing for. Like other famous players have said, nothing more thrilling than knowing your whole tournament could be on the line with just 72os. I've played internetpoker for not a long time, but for sometime now and you learn to go with your feelings, or atleast i have.

Intiution should generally rule one's life.

But I believe poker is the domain of pot odds.

And yes, I do get a gut feeling... when I overbet the pot, it's slightly painful as I know I just did the wrong move, and sure enough 90% of the time, it was!

Obviously, I don't make that mistake too often anymore, just something you learn to stop messing around with.

How many times would you buy a $15 ticket to win a $100 pot if you had a 1/10 chance in winning, and your gut told you to?

Usually my hunches are that someone else is going to suckout on me. For example Im dealt AA and raise big get reraised by another pocket pair usually queens I might add. My money is all in with the best hand. And of course I say to myself.... Watch them river me with a set..... I can almost predict that or someone catching their flush card on me... So I try not to think about it. If you dont think about it maybe it wont happen.

Now, if you are talking about making reads based on betting patterns, your opponents etc, I have gotten extremely good at that lately, guess this is a form of intuition too. However, sometimes the reads just arent on and you have a bad day (like yesterday for me). Maybe because you are tired or bored. When I run into bumps in the road like this, I take a break and do something else.

I think that's a great point, Irongirl. Sometimes you just can't force things to happen. If the cards aren't falling for you, and every time you make a move on a pot with nothing somebody else has a hand, just walk away. It took me a long time to learn that lesson. You just can't will the game to go your way.

I usually like to pay attention to my gut instinct, because it pays off most of the time. I often get the feeling that someone is only betting big to buy the pot, which I then call, and rake in the money:P but also, i get a bad feeling in my stomach if i feel that the tables have or are about to turn on me, and it is too late for me to do anything Those are the feelings i really don't like, but still pay close attention to.
Another thing I like to do is play with my odds. If i have many outs with a certain hand, I'm going to call it, just to see if i hit anything (with my luck, I usually don't lol). But it is always worth a shot.
