Default Chinese Poker

Has anyone ever played this game? I know alot of big time pros like to mess around with it in cash games and I have been playing it with some friends in the past month. And its a really fun game. For those of you who have never heard of chinese poker Ill give you some quick rules.

Up to Four players can play and you deal out 13 cards to each player

Then each player makes 3 poker hands (5 card, 5 cards, and 3 cards)

Your back hand(5 cards) is you best hand then your middle hand (5 cards) is your second best and your front hand (3 cards) is the worst hand

Then you turn over your cards and go against each players hands. And you get 1pt if you beat someone 2 of 3 hands and 3 pts if you beat someone in all hands

Then what ever limit you are playing the points are equal to the limits so in $1-$3 1pt would be $1 and 3pts would be $3. You could also play a $2-$6 limit where a sweep gets you 3x more.

At first when you play Chinese it may seem like a crap shoot but the strategy comes in when you have to set up your hands and the person who can do that consistantly win.

Pai Gow is an offshoot of Chinese Poker (only two hands).

I was going thru some old cardplayer stuff and came across the historical fact that they actually did award a bracelet at the WSOP in Chinese Poker one year.

A friend of mine was playing in one of the early WSOP events (she is Kathy Leiberts manager) alongside a well known pro who jumped out of his tourney seat and ran over to the cash games. When Tina asked what the heck are you doing.. his reply was "Phil Hellmuth just sat down and he Sucks at Chinese Poker and I wrote the book on it. Im going over to take his money!!!"

Yeah, in Pai Gow you are dealt 7 cards and you make a 2 card hand and a 5 card hand. You play against the dealer and here is how the action goes.

You have to win both hands to get paid OR
Lose both hands to lose.
Win one and lose one is a Push (bet is not paid or lost).

Your 5 card hand must be higher than your two card hand. I believe that when you win the house only pays you 95% of your bet and that is how the House gets its odds.

Very true.
You need to be a very attention and skilled player just like in Omaha HL oe seven stud's.
I tried to play it some time ago, but finishing losing $10. I then search to find the game in fun money option but i didn't and stop searching.

If anyone knows were i can find a "fun money" table to play for improving and understanding the game please post it here.

I was once playing regular checkers at a game site and then one day while trying to play a game accidently clicked on chinese checkers. I was so confused the first time my head started to hurt. Then after a while I figured it out and started to like it more than regular checkers. Now I play it all the time, well if I play a board game that is. It has much more strategy and allows for more people in the game at the same time both of which I really like about it.
