Default lay low til the break

Ilike to lay low and only play top hands until at least the 1st break. Ther is alot of temptation to play sub par hands for the cheap price. but alot of the mtt only start you with 1000-1500 chips. and you will dip in to that very quickly just calling a few hands. Plus the donkie factor. I know it is sweet to fatten your stack through these Donks . but you can bet that a few will slip threw til after the first break. When the second round starts a lot of the donks are gone, you now have the image of a rock, and its time tioplay your game> This is my veiw hope you try it and it works for you to. ty for your time woods61

Thumbs up

I like to do this alot of the time too, especially at an aggressive/cRaZy MTT too, but sometimes its better to be the aggressor of the table if you notice alot of weak players. I do like the idea of laying low to the break.

The best plan is probably to adapt to your table and to take whatever approach seems best against thos particular players. If there's a lot of chip-slinging going on, then tight may well be best until the early rush is over. on the other hand, if the table is playing weak and will let you be the table captain, it may be better to get in and do so.

I used to be like that but the blinds killed me after the break. Now i manage to create a tactic depending on the table and play a little more agressive from the start. This way i manage to be in first 20 in a big tournament when the break comes. Then the style changes until the final table. I tend to play a little more conservative. Onec getting into the final table i'm willing to take a lot of risks, knowing preatty well the players by now.

That was the story of my play last night. Playing to many sub-par hands and getting raised out of them. Sometimes it works, last night was crud. That is a good plan when starting with 3000 in chips. After the first break, you may still end up with over 2000 chips to play.

this is actually a very good strategy that works well. if you lay lo and dont play a lot of hands by the time break rolls around a lot of the competition and donkeys have been knocked out and you usually arent to far from making the money. Even better you usually still have a decent chip stack left especially with then new 3,000 starting chips like we have here on BBP.

I have learned that in Poker you have to take chances. I can usually get a FT one every 2 days if I try on a descent MTT. But then i usually get donkstrucked early in which happens but can be veyr frustrating. My strategy is obv to play agressive, but i like to play hands as cheaply as i can because you know that if you hit something you will get paid off, and if you dont it only cost you like 1/100th of your stack. I also like to minimize my bad beats, thus thanks to Phil Gordan and his little green book i try to stop the play before the flop happens or no the flop. Also you gotta remember not to be afraid to move all in. Its pretty helpful. Dont be afraid to reraise with AQ and like 1010 in position and stuff. I remember when i first started playing i only played like top 10 hands and kept calling other people donkeys for playing those crappy hands and they kept winning. Now i know why . Position is also a great factor, just great. One time blinds were 1000/2000 and 5 of us called and i just called on the puck, everyone checked it to me and i just bet the minimum 2000 and everyone folded. I was like ok score i'll take 10k in chips. Also another critical move in MTT's is the fact that you have to steal blinds. Stealing blinds is probably like #2 on important things to do in a MTT, obv #1 would be play your A-game. If you play way to tight you'll end up getting blinded out, and i bet it doesnt feel nice. I would rather now push all in with 27os against AA and take a chance than get blinded out. Usually after the blinds though i start to play a little tighter, and try to make sure no one sees the flop if I got a hand. Not by like going all in, but if someone raises and i got like AK i would probably push all in or make a nice reraise. A lot of times though people will try to bluff you out a lot and can be very useful for you. Oh also another thing. I will never just call or limp in early position with AA or KK. I keep trying to do that deep in MTT's and lose. I would atleast raise minimum but most likely 2.5x the blinds in early so i can get one caller usually. I think i've hit my MTT strategy pretty good. If anyone has any more questions about MTT well from my point of view let me know.

-Drago

To the End!
