| The old wisdom for becoming a good poker player says that there's no substitution for experience. For many people, just learning to read the board well enough to stay out of traps takes many thousands of hands that can end up being very costly. Even if you're good enough to catch on more quickly than that, chances are you'll drop a good bit of money before becoming profitable. In the old days of poker there was no alternative to this method of gaining experience at the tables, but today's computer technology has changed the situation in many respects. Playing online for low stakes or play money is the preferred method of learning the ropes, but simulation programs are available as well. Among these programs, Poker Academy Pro 2.0 is one of the most recent - and also one of the best. | I'd say that it's definitely worth the upgrade from the first Poker Academy, as many new features have been added. The statstics package is much more robust than in previous versions, there's an online element where you can play against other PAP users, and the tournament options are much more diverse. I believe that BioTools offers upgrades for less than the cost of buying the new version - check http://poki-poker.com for more information. |

| Wow that really looks like a great tool to have, I think I may have to go and check that out. However I have played poker for a while, almost 2 years now and I am certainly not a beginner, does it offer enough features for an advanced player to make it worth it's money? |

| Mikester, I've been playing for two solid years as well, and I use PAP every day to improve my game. If you're playing at a very high level you probably won't make much use of it, but I think that most players can get something out of it. Plenty of professionals use simulations to try out different strategies without risking their bankrolls - tight players can learn to play looser in good spots, loose players can learn when to tighten up, etc. If you save even a few bets here and there in a middle-level hold'em game, the program has basically paid for itself. I highly recommend it.
