Ok, here is the hand. Tell me how you would have played it. I see this kinda situation every once and awhile, and need to derive some kind of strategy for it. 1/2 dollar NL. Play is pretty conservative, nothing too crazy, pretty tight players. 5 players at the table. I am on the button, and dealt ATs. 2 guys in front of me fold, I raise it a few dollars. Small blind calls, so does the big blind. Pot = about 12 - 15 dollars (cant remember how much I raised). Flop = 2 4 2 SB checks, BB checks, I check. Turn = 2 SB checks, BB checks, I check. River = 4 SB checks, BB checks, Whats your move? A) check and hope you win with high card? B) Bet and push them out of the hand? EDIT: High card isnt right. Not sure why I put that in there. so, A) should read "Check and split it 3 ways." Last edited by 123Law : 08-30-06 at 11:23 AM.

Let me further explain what I am thinking at this point. Ok, 3 people in the hand. Everyone checking like crazy. Full house on the board, more then likely the full house on the board is the the best hand, and everyone is a winner, and it will be split 3 ways. If I can bet big, I may be able to push one person out, and it gets split 2 ways. Or, I get lucky, push both out with my big bet, and I take everything.

Well, here is what I did. I bet large. The first guy bailed. So I was happy, gonna split it 2 ways instead of 3. Right? Nope. The other guy turned over another 2. ouch. Bad idea. Should have just checked and split it 3 ways. I learned a valuable lesson.

I think you made a few mistakes playing that hand. Not that I am a great player when it comes to that sort of situations but I would have done it like this: You have AT and raised preflop ,2 people call. If u hit nothing on the flop but raised preflop and the 2 callers check before u I think that you made your first mistake checking there. If u made a defensive but good bet righ there you know where you would be If no one calls your bet you take the pot . If there is a player who calls then you know that he has hit something and if he doesnt reraise he would probably have a bottom pair or a low pocket. If both players call your defensef modest"bluff"then you know they both hit something or on a draw. If someone reraises then you know this hand is not going to deliver any money. Thats wy if I am on the button and the other players check to me On the flop I try to figure out what they have right then with a good bet instead of waiting till the river and bet a really big bet and loose it all. If I didnt hit anything on the flop and have no draw I try to take the pot then with a defensive bet or if im reraised Ill have to fold. Think it will save you some money on long terms.
