Club Gustav (Gus) Hansen

Gustav (Gus) Hansen, originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, is one of the most aggressive players in Poker. From humble beginnings as an unknown amateur in Santa Cruz, California, Gus Hansen has quickly developed a reputation as one of the most difficult players to play against.

One thing I find both sad and curious is how certain players whose biggest poker accomplishment consists of placing in a few freerolls seem to take such delight in denigrating Gus Hansen's ability and style, almost invariably attributing his success to luck.

What they don't take into account is that TV distorts the way he plays. I've heard from people who have played against him live that he is very aggressive and extremely hard to read because of how he mixes up his play. However, on TV, because they edit out the straightforward hands, it looks like he's doing unusual things all the time whereas he actually folds most of the time, although possibly less often than the average player.

Ive seen him play a couple of times on TV, tho i know what youre talking about w/the editing, hes still my favorite player.

But if they showed every hand on TV, that would be a long boring session.

Rumor is he's broke. He showed up at the WSOP for only a day...didn't play in all the events like most of the pros did. During the last day of the WSOP at the Rio, I overhead his nephew tell someone he was playing in the big game at the Bellagio. But if he was, he likely was doing it on someone else's money.

Nearly every pro has gone broke at least once in their career. Gus will be back on top soon, I'm sure.

so it's true he's broke? i heard Doyle lent him 4 million dollars.
quite an investment eh.

from the way Gus hansen took out Doyle in that Poker Superstars video and the looks on Doyle's face seemed like he hated gus, but i guess they had quite a special relationship if he lent 4 million..

although that's not so much for doyle i guess..

Gus is by far one of the better players. He loves playing suited cards.
people say he lucks out on alot of hands, but in fact, the thing is more that players playing against him made wrong decisions against him, because he plays so many hands, they always put him on a lesser value hand than the one he's actually holding etc

thing is, I reckon Doyle knows that gus will be able towin back with that money
gus is a reall good player who just had a bad run i think. Doyle knows that and probably lent money to Gus knowing that Gus will win it back threefold, or even more.
i personally think Gus will get back up

and if more players joined Pokerchamps! we will be helping him out as well :P
