Default low low limit

i hate playing in the 1cent/2cent games cause everyone one there are really bad players. personally i like the challenge of playin against good players. also a huge pot there is like a dollar, which is extremely small.
thanks

Default Limit games

I think limit games are the way to go especially if you are low on funds. It seems like some yahoo always goes all in on me when I have a great hand in No Limit games, so I definately like the limit games. With a little luck and alot of patience, you can build your cash up, and move up to a higher stake game. I prefer Omaha Hi/Lo on limit games, but am always ready for a good Hold 'Em table too.

Default The cut

The problem with low limit poker is you cannot beat the cut. If you play long enough all the money goes into the cut bucket. In a casino you are fading the cut, the tip, and sometimes the badbeat cut. I have seen more than once where a pot was split, cut, bad beat cut, and both splitters tip the dealer.

What would you define as low limit .01/.02 to .10/.20? I appreciate the comments on here, and as I read these thoughts I can think back to the number of times I have been sucked out.

I guess another way to ask, when does the middle level start?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the terminology you're using -- cut bucket? Excuse my ignorance, but please explain?

I think he's referring to the rake. When you play low limits, there is no way you can really make a profit long-term, since so much of your money is going to the rake. Bascially, no one goes pro playing 1/2 limit.

BTW, Jason has a great article up now on playing short-handed low limit games.

Ahhh, then I get it. I hadn't heard of it referred to as that before, and figured it was a term for something else, something more exotic...

At what threshold does the rake start to level off to make long-term profit more plausible?

Depends on where you play, and online vs. live. Live you're looking at 8/16 at least. Online you can get it at 2/4 perhaps. When I said no one goes pro at 1/2, I was thinking live casino play. I don't know that you could make a good living at that level online either, but I suppose it's possible, since the rake isn't that big.
