Derived from Texas Hold’em, Omaha is a very similar game, but involves a slightly different approach. The main differences between the two games are:

a) In Omaha, each player receives 4 hole cards, as opposed to Texas Hold’em where each player only receives 2 hole cards

b) A player’s hand in Omaha requires that he/she use EXACTLY two of their hole cards, and EXACTLY three of the community cards, forming a 5 card poker hand from the 9 available cards. A player’s top hand must meet these two requirements, so unlike Texas Hold’em you may not “play the board”.

I think it should be pointed out that Omaha plays rather differently from holdem. In holdem, drawing to straights and flushes is generally for except in those instances where your opponents allow you to do so either for free or cheaply. In contrast to this, Omaha is much more oriented toward drawing. The fact that each player has four hole cards that represent six different combinations means that there are lots of ways for people to hit draws.

Another major difference is that the winning hands tend to be considerably better. One pair almost never wins in Omaha, and two pair can be pretty iffy. Because of the multiple draw possibilities, you'll see a lot more straights, flushes and full houses in Omaha. For someone used to holdem, this means you have to adjust your standards for what constitutes a good hand.

omaha has to be my least fav poker game, i think it hates me, i've only won 1 trny of omaha in all the years i have been playing poker, i like the fun tables, less strategic, but as for trnys & money tables, i try to pass

The number one thing I have learned playing Omaha is that if the board pairs up, and this doesn't give you the full house, FOLD. Omaha can be fun at times but I prefer Hold em. I consider Omaha to be Hold em on steriods, much like the MLB.

Omaha high low tokk me so long to get and i feel bad for the dealers in live tourneys with all the slipt pots and everything i tip my hat to them.

omaha high low is a very fun... but frustrating game to play... its hard to tell wen you have the best hand... like wen your holding aakj and the flop comes 2 5 8.... you dont know if the other person is holding 2 pair set or nothing.... thats why i stick to no limit holdem... you can read the person and you can kinda get a read on what the guy has.... omaha is a good game for an experienced stud or holdem player that can read people... i've played in a few tournys and did bad .... but its a fun game to sum it up

Omaha is a great game once you have learned the rules. I mostly play high low. The one game that if there is a freeroll I am always in. I find It hard to believe how many think you can go all in with the 4 cards in your hand. This is a tough game and untill you see the flop its up for grabs. Pocket rockets are ok but doesn't mean a whole lot in this game.

Hi-lo is one game that I can not get the hang of - Eash time I play I get smoked - I just stay away fron it!!!!
