I'm playing in a step tournament last night at a local sports bar here. The tournament is down to 46 so i made it to the next step. A guy comes to our table with i swear a hat that blinked and pulsed and was bright. He sat right across from me and it was like trying to sleep with someone cutting a flashlight on and off in your face. So i call the director over and ask him if he can remove it. The guy by me is complaining too. The director makes him take it off and everybody at the table chastizes me for it. Was I in the wrong for having him take it off? It wasn't like he turned it off when he wasn't in a hand. It stayed on the whole time. I would appreciate the feedback.

You have the right to ask the director to have him remove it. It brings to mind the guy with the chimes at the WSOP this year and Annie Duke had the director remove it. Distractions are not ok. Its bad enough they allow, music, hats, glasses and getting up from the table when you are involved. Heck i don't know how you didn't go over there and physically remove it. lol

Wow... never heard of anything like that before. I dont think there is anything against the rules as to what the guy was wearing, but it does seem to be in bad taste to wear something with the intention of distracting other players. Probably bad etiquette, but not against the rules. If this was a "for fun" tournament in a league event, I might let it go. If this was "for real" where there was a good sized payout, I probably would have done the same thing and at least inquired with the tournament director as to whether or not you could get him to remove the hat. Either way, its just tacky.

Wow, I hadnt heard that one. It comes down to what we want poker to be: 1) a baseball type of game where the player chants "aaaa batter, batter,,,, swinnnnnggg batter", or 2) a golf type of game where being quiet and respectful is the proper thing to do. I would venture to guess that an overwhelming majority of poker players would consider these two actions (flashing hat and clinking jacket) extremely distracting, and as such should be not just bad etiquette, but against the rules as well. Intentionally doing something to distract a player,,,, should be against the rules.

Yeah it was very distracting. I could've made a big scene. He moved tables and put it back on and some other guy and him almost got into a fist fight over it. Pretty serious tournament. Top 5 get some sweet prizes HD T.V.'s and such. I made to the next step so we'll see how it goes next week.

| No offense to evilintentions or anyone that agrees with him but I think that you have to let him keep the hat on. As long as its not interacting with you directly like haveing a hat that shoots rubberbans at you or something you have to learn to ignore it. What is the difference between that hat and someone talking trash to you. I agree both are bad etiquette but if we allow one we should allow the other. Also I think a good pair of sunglasses would correct this problem.

I hear ya. I just don't like to wear sunglasses for some reason. I think they help to some extent. Now again this is my opinion and mine only. I think glasses should not be aloud either. That's just me. We'll see if he wears it again he made it to the next step as well.
