Default Music at home game

Ok, I am hosting a home game here soon.

I am expecting that no one will have headphones, and want to put on some music in the background.

My question: What music should I put on that will be satisfactory to everyone? I know I wont please everyone, but whats a good mix of music that will be a nice middle ground?

Just curious as to what you all think.

You definitely won't please everyone, and it's quite possible that some people might not even want music on. I suspect the success of your choice is going to depend on the demographics of the people attending.

That said, I would suggest instrumentals, jazz or blues. Instrumentals are less likely to be distracting to players who don't want music, and these styles of music are benign enough not to really offend anyone.

However, if you know you are going to have a diverse group of people, maybe the thing to do would be to pick lots of songs from lots of different categories and set the music player to shuffle all of them. That way, at least something should hit for everyone.

I agree... I think I am going to put on some light instrumental, or possibly some light jazz, or maybe some stevie wonder kind of station. Who doesnt love stevie?

If anyone starts bitching, then I will simply turn it off, and go from there. I know I wont be able to please everyone, but I would like to have something in the background.
