Default Representation in early position

Everyone's saying that raising in early position isn't good since there are a lot of players to act after you, but let's check out an example right here: I raised in early position with 7-6S. Most players fold, I mean, what hands would you raise with in early position, big cards and pocket pairs right?
Then there's this guy with A-Q in late position, everyone folded to him and he decides to call. Let us say that the flop is 10-4-9 rainbow. Now you sigh sadly (don't overreact, you don't want people to think you're strong), he bets and you raise. Now there is no way in hell that he can call, I mean, doesn't this seem like something like pocket queens or kings, aces or jacks?

Post replies please.

Your stategy sounds fine to me as long as you have a tighter table image, cause when players start to see what your doing they wont have as much respect for your early postion raises. Also you have to know when to give up on the play when you meat alot of resistance.

Also a nice benifit of your play is when you hit the flop and the other guy has and you can win a huge pot

You really don't have to have a tight image with this strategy, the opponents at my table knows that I'm subject to set them all in. I've read Doyles books and my play are according to that book.

All you need to do is to get the good, loose, aggressive image.
That should do it and you'll win the money by picking up small pots.
