1) Get a decent Poker Book that covers starting hands and post flop play.
2) Play tight, then aggressive when you make a hand.
3) Join a Forum and participate. Many members are more than happy to offer free advice (usually it's helpful).
4) Manage your bankroll.
5) Don't drink while playing poker
6) Quit when you get ahead
7) Set a Goal then Cash out some money when you get there

These seven items have been the most useful for me in winning at poker.

A good way to learn and get better is to ask yourself some questions while playing. Like why did I just make the move I did. For example if you just made a bluff for a pot ask yourself why did you just made that bluff, did you see the player lay down to big bets before? Where there scare cards out on the board? If the answer to the why you made it is because it sounded like a good thing to do then it was probaly a mistake on your part. This way you can help yourself improve you playing because you will start to understand more why you make plays and why they may not be working.
