Default Consistantly loosing in online poker.

Hey all,

I don't know if some of you guys remember me when I posted my experiences playing on pokerstars.com. I kept loosing on it and then combined with things I hear about pokerstars I quit that site and started playing on partypoker.com.

But the same old thing keeps happening again. I constantly loose. Sometimes I might make a couple bucks but at the end of the day I always walk away down, and down until I run out of my bankroll. I don't know if it's just me but when I compare this with play money (yes I know it's not the same) the cards I get are so much more dull and my draws just NEVER come. I get beaten by 4ofakinds that come like nothing.

I play very cauciously and I am selectively aggressive. I never hope for anything too lucky. I don't know if whether it's just my luck or my gameplay. If I could think of one reason maybe it's because I deposit only $50 bucks at a time and therefore play lower stakes games where it's not as serious and proper? I usually play around the 10c/25c NL games to the 25c/50c NL tables.

I know some of you guys are thinking maybe poker's not for me but when I play live poker I usually play very well and win. However where I am now there really isn't much of a poker scene so I see playing online as a very good alternative.

Does anyone have any advice or have simular experiences? I would love to hear from people who actually profit playing online.

Thanks,
Brandon

Hi Brandon,

How long have you been playing online? I would say there is a learning curve of up to 6 months. Once you pass this curve and slowing gain more experience hopefully you will see yourself improving your play. Hopefully you will see that you are breaking even, then slowly your weekly and monthly profits will rise.
There will always be bad beats and fish who catch on the river, if you are a good player you WILL beat them eventually. The only way to do this is to play hand after hand after hand.

I'll send you a pm I wont mind watching you play on the rail.
Hope your luck turns around soon.

Strider, if you cannot beat Party or Stars, then you need to re-tool your game. Those are the biggest Fishtanks online IMHO. I have played probably 40-50 sites with "House" money for the last two years. My original deposit was $100 with a Visa at Paradise and I've not made a deposit since. On the average, I withdraw about $50 per month as a Micro Player.

Post some of your hands here and you will get some helpful feedback. It is the best way to dissect your game.

I recommend playing TAG (Tight Aggressive), because if you start with stronger hands, your probablility of winning goes up. It takes some patience, but it's worth it.

Second, it's important to know how to play post-flop. If a flop is in your favor, start betting to see how your opponents react. If you have a drawing hand, do you understand how to estimate your odds?

Third, are you walking away a winner or do you stay too long and lose it back. Money management is the most important aspect of a winning gambler.

Lastly, about 40-50% of my profit had come from clearing bonuses. You have probably missed out on the "Best Times" of Bonus Whoring, but I usually play the Micros, then switch to Low Limit to clear the Bonuses. Usually by playing two tables at a time.

Perhaps you play to passively? Or perhaps to aggresively?

My experience of these sites are that you are able to pick up most of the small pots. And when you really have a hand you can try a trap against those over aggresive players there is at these sites.

And you can also consider trying some no deposit bonuses to get back on track.

Well I just played a $100 dollar rookie freeroll and out of 1855 I came 2nd, almost first but second.

So I won like $10.75 and then used 3 dollars from that to play in a STT sit&go turbo and ended up coming 3rd. Went all in with K9 and got called with J8 and the other guy spiked an 8 on the flop to win. I basically played all in or nothing. I find this strategy reasonable at times. Though, when you get down to the final few and can't pick up a hand it can get really frustrating and you get blinded down like I almost did.
