Default The problem with *ALL IN*

Since so many new players are intrigued by poker nowadays and have started playing by the millions, this phrase, glamorized on TV, has changed the game forever.

How many times have you played on a site n have seen several people going All In pre-flop, whether its a tourney or a cash game, w/some of the weirdest and worst hands and up winning.

The phrase is so contagious and so easy to do, that in a way, it can ruin your game.

What do you guys think?

I think more often or not, players going 'all in' at innapropriate times will HELP your game, not hurt it. Sure now and then the luck factor will come back and bite you,but if you play well, you will catch them at the right moment and the 'all in' becomes 'all yours'.

only one thing i have to say...if the tournament starting chips would be at least 3000-5000 there wouldn't be all ins preflop ...if you start with only 1000 and you know that in maximum an hour you are going to be out if you don't win some nice pots...but let's don't forget that there are many fishes that go all in with anything...10 min ago i was busted by pocket 4 that took my K K with a lucky turn 4...so you can't choose you're opponents in tournaments but my advice is to use BUDDY list for ring games where you can add all the players you like to play against...

Cheers,

u don't really see it much on higher limits.
maybe it's the nature of the low limit games
they aren't risking alot of money so they just go all in hoping the luck factor will kick in.
lot of times people who do that are the beginners. as they don't have the skills they rely on luck to win
believe me, u don't see them much in higher limit games.
and i personally don't think this all-in phenomena occured due to televised poker...

be grateful that they are in ur games, try not to be the one calling their all in with KK though, only with AA
best thing to do is don't confront them, let others gamble against them.
AA is the only exception. u always confront them with it, but i guess u already know that much

I prefer to not use the all in preflop unless I am low stacked then its the only thing to do. I do like to use it every once in awhile after the flop as long as I am in good position. You need to win the big pots, so if you have the nuts why rush the all in, slow play it a little and try to suck someone in.
You should also change your play during the course of a game so your not an easy read. If you are predictable players will catch on to your tendency's and take full advantage of you.
I love playing against players who go in all the time, have patience, your moment will come to win that all in, seen it happen too many times.

good point.
as the better player, don't go all in unless ur short stacked
but some variation can be made.
specially in tournaments, early the better, if u flop a boat with 2 suited cards,
if ur on a loose table try going all in, u'll get called by someone chasing the Ace high flush. believe me
u see them

but please please please, don't go all in unless u are sure to win or ur shortstacked.

That fact that your aware of this, um, phenom, should enhance your game, not ruin it...

which I believe was stated previously...

I play alot of freerolls, and all ins are rampant(sp)... I generally avoid them, but since I have no money invested, I will call with say Q9s or bettre..if only a couple are in with me, and if 5 or more are in, I will call with just about anything... 1000 to win 6 or 7k, just can't pass this up..

I don't see all in's near as much when I am playing with real money... even at the low limit tables I play at....and when I do see them, the person usually just gets the blinds pushed his way.. OR, he goes bust...

i too play a lot of freerolls and seem to get extremely frustrated for the simple fact that people seem to think going all in* preflop with hands like is good!!...then people like me will call with q's or k's but lose because of the fluke factor...

but at the end of the day i know those players will never be able to compete at the casinos...ive personally played a dozen times at the casino at limits as high as 5/10 NL ...ull never see that there...

It used to bother me... but, I realized it was a free game...and they are entitled to play however they like... i think the thing that really upset the most, was I was not the one getting the cards to challenge them with.. heh

Those freerolls do tend to get, how do you say, boring, so I can see how that might prompt a person to go all in just to get the blood boiling again... and they certainly care alot less about the game, at that particular time..

I soon realized that patience will overcome those ALLinER's, and after the first break, most if not all of them are eithre gone, or have the chip lead and play smarter....

I think the most peturbing thing, online is when people constantly go ALL IN because.. 'They have to leave'.

Just fricking leave already..... sit out, and go do your business....

Alot of times, it is a ploy.... and early on, I noticed it working quite a bit.. alot less these days...

If you have to go, right now.. don't sit there for 20 minutes going all in every hand....
