i'd have to go with Rounders too, its a poker classic...also ive seen high roller and it wasnt really a poker movie i think it focuses more on his lifes ups and downs rather than real poker situations, it does show him winning the main event , but they only show one hand already in progress...

has anyone seen the movie Cincinatti Kid'???...i heard that a really good poker movie but its really old

Yuo rounders was a great movie. One of my favorite scenes is when he delivers the package to the college campus and scrubs up everyone by telling them the exact hand each of them hands. I think that is a great scene. It is also the turning point in the movie.

Default Go with the Classic - Cincinnati Kid

The Cincinnati Kid is the classic of all poker movies. The film is pretty old and the VHS copy I saw was a little warped, but it kind of gives you an idea of the types of places and lifestyle that Doyle Brunson and Amarillo Slim talk about living in the time before the corporate casino poker rooms took over and provided a fair game. The movie takes place in the seedy area of New Orleans.

I know this was a book too and was wondering if anyone read it? I always wondered whether 'The Kid' was from Cincinnati or whether he maybe got that name from playing Cincinnati Poker. His girlfriend calls him "The Three Rivers Wonder" which is Pittsburgh, not Cincinnati. The guy I watched the movie with told me he got the name from the poker game.

Just a bit of trivia. I didnt think there was a game called Cincinnati, but I stumbled upon it in one of the first poker books I read, so I was surprised to find it really exists, and like I posted in another forum, its kind of an insiders game.

Anyone read the book and know for sure?

Default The Cincinnati Kid

Come on Rounders was good, but so unlikely. The Cop catching them cheating, the so called tough guy scaring them, and most unlikely turning down the Russian girl. Most unlikely all the local tough players getting on the same table in Atlantic City.

Compare that to Old New Orleans, Steve McQueen, Edward G. Robinson, and Anne Margret. The final hand along is worth the price of buying the DVD.

Quiz in the movie only one individual takes money from Yancey. Who?

Answer Tricky Bob

I'll say Rounders, just to be different.

I remember watching it while working in a video store about 6 or 7 years ago. I thought it was great, but had no concept of what they meant by "the cadillac of all poker games" - no limit hold'em.

Well, after starting to buy in to this whole poker scene (along with the rest of the world) earlier this year, I've bought the movie and watched it a bunch of times (actually twice, but I've seen it about ten times so far).

It really makes you want to quick your job and play professionally. And I would if I didn't have to support my family...and if I were any good at the game. Still, I can dream while playing 0.50/1 limit and $5 SNGs.

I'm actually recording some Stu Ungar movie later this week. I know there's a Nick Cage one coming out next year, but I'm looking forward to this one.

K.

once again agreed, Rounder is also my favorite its a greta well set up movie. It's also kind of funny that the movie got really popular now that holdem got so famous. I too havn't see the stu ungar story but it looks liek a somewhat good movie.

The Stu Ungar story is crap. I love poker and I like the guy from The Sopranos, but the movie is worthless. There are a few interesting scenes with Stu playing Gin Rummy with Mr. Myagi, but the good moments are few and far between.

It's kind of like one of those "A Mother's Hope" type movies you seen on ABC on Friday nights...not that I watch those...

This is the best poker movie i have seen so far (Havent watched "High Roller : The Stu Ungar Story" yet).

Great storyline, great cast of actors/actresses and characters throughout the whole movie and great dialogue.

I've seen so many KGB screen names inspired by this movie.

The DVD actually has commentary by 4 poker pros - Johhny Chan, Chris Jesus Ferguson, Phil Hellmuth and Chris Moneymaker.
Also on DVD is an interactive poker game you can play.

Overall, this has got to be the best poker movie ever made.

Your thoughts?

Theres absolutely no way anything can surpass the greatness of Rouners.
