| chris moneymaker never played poker in his life.. he didn't know anything about this game.. he was inspired by "rounders" and after one (or two) year he became the WSOP champion.. it's really good movie - and begginer poker players can learn too much from this one.. there are too many sentences you can quote from this movie which really can help you in the game.. the other poker movie i watched was "Shade" with really good crew of actor but this movie is unrealistic and i don't know what game of poker they played there.. and there is nothing about skill and tips in this one.. it's only one good commercial poker movie about frauds.. ![]() i downloaded rounders, burned it into cd, and i think i'll watch it once per month ![]() and one question for all: imagine the situation when you're dealt first hand when matt damon lost all his money.. A9 with A99 board..(when he re-raised preflop and just got a call) - and i saw this hand on my table of one tourney .. is there a chance that anyone would fold that monster there, or wouldn't re-raised or moved allin ?

| Okay so if your a poker fan then you love the movie "Rounders" I like it for a different reason however, If it was not for this movie, I would have never discovered Hold Em. After watching this in the theater in 1997 this game became a staple at my home games. Very nice movie as well, oh and Edward Norton is great in this movie (should have been nominated for best supporting actor) He played that part great. |

| I've seen High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story, and yes, it's too much melodrama. But it is a great view on the life of one hell of a card player, not just poker player. I've seen Rounders, and it goes over the top in trying to invoke some of the classic traits of poker and it's players. But, that's Hollywood for ya. I vaguely remember seeing The Cincinnatti Kid, I have to go back and see it again. Shade, never seen it, but may have to try and find it. But, I can't believe that not a soul has mentioned Maverick. Yeah, it's more of a farce than a poker movie, But there are two reasons I love this poker themed movie. One, Jodie Foster. A caniving thief/whore that plays poker with the big boys, love her in that role (and that boustierre). Two, it's hilarious. Not in a bad way either, I just loved the screenplay. And, absolutely spot on about Tilt, I think there's a good reason ESPN has never replayed it to this day. They could have done so much more with that show and the actors they had.

| I enjoyed Maverick. I first saw it when I was at school, and I wanted to learn how to play properly. I taught myself the rules from a book and developed my own plays etc playing 5-draw for pennies during free periods. Admittedly, the film isn't much about poker, and the hands that come up are just a bit far-fetched, but it's a good film which happens to have a bit of poker in it too. When it does do the poker bits, it really hammers home the fact that you play the players and not the cards - especially in draw. |
