Default Specific Hand

250 person tourny down to heads up, you and one guy. You have 100k he has 150k in chips. Blinds are 5/10k.

You are delt and are first to act. You raise to 3x the big blind (this is key moment #1, so feel free to dissagree and correct me).

He calls. 60k now in the pot, you have 70k he has 120k. Flop comes down . You are first to act. What do you do (this is key moment #2)?

If you decided to check, or bet (but didn't go all in), he now puts you all in. (this is key moment #3). Do you call or fold?

Very curious to hear your responces on how you all would have played this, thanks.

No matter what in a heads up game, you have to be the aggressor.

If i raise w/AQ and i dont hit nothing on the flop except for a gutshot draw, i would still put out a value bet and hope that he folds.
If he doesnt fold and just calls and i still hit nothing on the turn, i would probably bet again and hope that he folds.
If i still hit nothing on the river, i probably would try to bluff by going all in and hoping he folds, lol.

Now, if he re-raised me all in on flop after i raised, it all depends on if i know that player whether to call or not.
If i think hes a loose player, i would call, if hes a tight player, i might just fold.

But thats just me.

so...the first key moment is played corectly in my opinion..it's not the best hand posible but it's one of the premium hands so the raise isn't very big...

Key moment #2 ... if you decide to check your oponent will surely bet or even go all in to try to scare you......it's an important pot but at heads up doesn't go this way...you can't be sure of what your oponent is having or can't even guess..if he is a tight player he probably has a low pocket pair or an high card ...if he is more of a loose player you can't tell what he has...so a small bet will make you see the turn...

Key moment #3 ... if he goes all in after you checked it's clearly that he want's to scare you...if he goes all in after you majke a small bet (minimum) he has something but probably not the top pair...if he goes all in on a medium bet then he has the top pair ( Jacks )..

From now on it depends on the money diference beetwen place 1 and 2nd place so i would probably fold if it's big...So probably i would have fold if he goes all in...

Cheers ,

cool, thanks for the feedback. this was a hand that eliminated me recently from a tourny. He was played 9, J...so after the flop he had top pair. I moved all in hoping he would fold to me, he called...and with no help on the turn or the river took home the tourny.

again, thanks for the insight on how you two would have played the hand.

J,

Heh no problem man ...after all that's why we joined the forum...to learn more to see our mistakes and to corect them..I don't know the other player but maybe it was a little hasty decision to go all in...the flop only gave you a str8 chance adn of course higher pairs then your opponent but you couldn't known what your opponent could have had...

Its always good to ask others for their insights to see what they would do in a certain hand.
The best poker players in the world didnt learn everything on their own.
Theres always books to read, DVD's to watch, and helpful information from fellow poker players.

Sometimes when i play with my friends, i ask them why they played a certain hand that way and sometimes they would tell me and it helps me know what that person is thinking at that moment, which you could use as information against other players you dont know as to how they would approach that type of situation.

yes..that what's i wanted to say...it's a poker forum where everybody could learn from everybody so that's why i don't understand why so "much" people post their opinions...

I am prolly a lil late with this.. but, Im not entirely sure your preflop bet is 100% correct. Hard to say with knowing the type of player your up agaisnt.. have to give him the benefit of the doubt tho, since he bested 248 others... with that said..

If you had went 4x the big blinds. would that not have reduced his pot odds signicantly enuff to make him think about calling with only a fair hand?

as for the flop.. you have to first ask yourself, what could have that beats you.. a j 10 or 3 and he is ahead, any pocket pair. he called your bet instead of raising, so prolly not holding AK KK or the like... you need to eithre go all in to take the pot right there... he may fold if he thinks your with QQ or bettre.. or make a value bet to test 'the waters'... I would have prolly went all in..

I wouldn't check that flop.. so, I can't address #3...

and keep in mind, I am not a winning player, just a break even player..

defnitly not too late, i apreciate the extra insight. thanks to you all for the feedback, and keep it coming if you have something more to say.

fyi: when i went all in i knew there was a good chance i didnt have the best hand. im not sure, but i think a lot of you think i was 'going for the gutshot', i wasnt.

since he didnt reraise preflop i pretty much knew after the flop he had nothing, or an under pair, i was hoping nothing...but if he did have the underpair i had the the 3 Qs, 4 Ks, and 3 As left in the deck 10/47....not very good!

my all in was ballsy...if he caught that pair...i was only a bit over 1/5 to win the hand...but i guess i was really hoping he would fold...or think i was outright bluffing and flip over KQ or something...

anyway the feedback has been helpfull, i definitly wish i played the hand another way since it cost me a couple hundred in winnings...although i dont think my 'all in' was the end of there world...hmm...

keep the feedback coming if you can, im actually quite fascinated by this hand! lol. Peace.
