Default Poll : Would you make this call?

Alright, lets say your playing a small tournament with friends/co-workers whatever...single table ..8 people with 1500 chips to start...lets say your the BB..and the first to act raises 200 chips..(keep in mind you have 1500) 3 people opt to call and it comes back to you in the BB with....

now most Gus Hansen fans lol would make the call immediately, i too am guilty of making that call quick too ...but is it really worth it? what do you guys think? is that hand really that good or should we take as face value ( 9 high )

i would make the call 1 third of the time i think and it depends on what your gut tells you. because if its suited connectors its a good hand but if they have AKs KQs QJs then you will probably loose it and you can put the raiser on high cards and the caller on mediocre cards like AJ off so you have to decide if you want to gamble or not.

My call would depend on how big the blinds are and what kind of players are playing that hand with me if i choose to play. Looking at it rite now, i would probably call it just to see the flop.

With 3 people out of 8 already calling at a raise of 200 chips out of 1500 in the beginning of the game?

No i would not make that call, i would let those guys cripple each other and pick a better spot to gamble.

Every chip is valuable to me so i wouldnt risk my chips especially 200 of it on a 89 offsuit early in the game when 3 people have already called.

If it was just heads up someone raising on me with the same cards, then yes, i would call, but for that situation, you gotta know your dealing with better cards than yours.

But thats just me.

The only scary to me about this scenario is position...

Calling is not an option tho... fold or raise.

not to give to much away about me before we all play together, but im a gambler.

im %90 sure the experts would definitly say to fold that hand....but I'm calling. The only way I'm going to win this hand is if the flop hits niiiice...but if trips, str8, flush, fullhouse, or any other crazyness happens to come, its going to be fun scooping up that huge pot so early on and then pushing around my coworkers for the next hour.

yea, im calling.

The more I think about this, the more I think, that if your going to play this hand.... ( folding is what you should do, since your in the BB ), but, you feel your opponents are weak, or kidding around, or you stacked the deck, or for whatever reason you do decide to play these two cards.. and that is the ticket right there... your first decision should be

1) do I play these cards...

not, do I call or raise...

once you have decided to play them, then

2) call or raise

and I would raise, with the thought process of

the money I lose here with my raise, ie, initial better comes over and I fold, will pay me off in the long run... and more than likely, the table will fold down to 1 or 2, and if not, I've still got a decent pair of starting cards.

This falls under the category of selective agression...

You have the advantage vs good players as that they should know your not going to come over a raise from BB position unless you have something to back it up.... ur screwed vs the less than stellar players tho.

Summary.. the safe thing to do is fold... the potential for a great payoff makes this a playable hand.

Default fold

I think I would probably fold, you already haver three people playing the hand and its a good raise for the game to be starting, I suppose the blinds where really low, so I would have folded the hand. Anyway I think it is a good/regular hand so if the raise would have benn 100 or less I would have called. Well that what I think

The prevailing although not universal wisdom for one-table tourneys seems to be to play tight early. Let a few players knock each other out while you accumulate some chips when you happen to get dealt good cards.

While there are other factors to consider, such as those already noted earlier in this thread, unless they are fairly strong in suggesting that I play this hand, I'd stick with my initial inclination, which is to fold.

This sums it up very well. Knowing the kind of player i am, i would call this just to see the flop.

Re-raising this hand with 3-4 callers won't be my option. I don't want to put more money in the pot this early in the game with a "not so strong" hand.
