Default Poker Mindset

Hello, I am new to this forum, The reason for this post is that in about the last 5 or 6 times I have been to the casino I have noticed some things. There have been times where (and this is hard to explain) I have 'felt' positive vibrations towards a hand, and not hoping, but a positive jolt in my gut. For example this happened when I had A 6 off suit which I usually don't call, the flop was A 6 4. Does anyone put any value of the idea of meditation, or even smoking pot, before playing, to get into a state where you can feel the potential and current vibration fields.

holdem is a very complicated game, but the knowledge is out there in such a big way that opponents can simply be beaten by better play less and less of the time, although of course this will always be a huge factor. I think the future of No Limit holdem will include factors that are not purely logical and strategic.

Being in the right frame of mind is definately a factor one should consider before playing for money... how you get there is up to you...

You prolly new that A6 was good/decent because over time, you have subconciously taken notice of what people will play....

Yeah its great to go whith your gutfeeling but I think that nowadays there are so many different types of players online so its very unpredictible to go whith it becouse many of the, what can I say? more new players ore thouse who are not that great. they call whith anything and they get something anyway. its hard to reed their game because they dont have any. and then its hard to trust your gutfeeling I am not saying that I am a proe but I still have a gameplan and dont call whith anything all the time. If you are new you will soon see what I am talking about

I suspect anyone who has played much poker has had some situations where they've done thing they normally wouldn't based on hunches, gut feel, intuition, or something else that's difficult to define.

In my case, the majority don't work out, but the wins tend to be bigger than the losses. No real idea if I'm ahead or behind overall though.

Default Actually...

They say that "instinct" or "premonition" is actually your brain's subconscious trying to tell you something. If that sounds strange or weird, it's not!

It's like this... we only use 10% of our brains, right? Well, the other 90% isn't dead, it's just not wired right to be used the way we use the busiest part of our brain. But it's there, storing information and maybe observing. Studies have shown that people's first instincts, in many cases, actually ARE right (not just an urban legend), and some scientists attribute this to instinct being "that" part of the brain's way of sending us information. IE, that we're not used to thinking with it, so it's not as clear as what we do with our id/ego/etc, the usual suspects of our brain. The rationale is that the human brain is capable of storing and processing a vast amount of information, and but that sometimes the only way we are able to use that information is through instinct.

So, as others have said, maybe something about the cards (you've seen them before, you've seen hands before, your brain told you that A6 does well), something about the people (their posture, facial expressions, mannerisms, method of throwing their chips in, etc), something told your brain from experience that the A6 would do well, and it did.

I think people underestimate instinct because it's not easy to understand, but I think there's something to it! Follow your instincts!

Unless you're on tilt!

Try to repeat the process, then'll you know. It could easily have just been a coincidence. I go with my gut if it's strong on these things sometimes and it seems to be wrong more often than not. They've done experiments at (either Princeton or Yale) on psychic phenomenon and had statistically significant results that were beyond random chance of some psychic type influence. It usually isn't foolproof being something like 60-80 percent effective rather than randomly effective.

Pot certainly puts you in a different mind state and depending upon the person this could help or impair your poker ability. You'll probably be paying attention to slightly different things while under the influence.

I tend to feel that people become overly enamored with pot and what it can do when more powerful and useful psychedelics like LSD are out there. I haven't used in a while, but when I did I found pot most useful for inducing high quality sleep and for enhacing sex.
