I know a few people who use third party software with their online poker programs. Like, texas caculatem, totally legal, but i don't see the point. I mean, i think poker should be somthign played by yourself, not by a program telling you what to do, i doint see how a program could help though, it'd make your game completely linear and totally predictable. What do you guys think? helpful, or not?

The programs supposedly give an edge... and that is the idea in poker, to have an edge... I used pokertracker for a bit, but, also started losing while using it.. once I deleted it from my computer... i started winning/breaking even again.. coinencidence? prolly... heh... I figure if you play enough poker, you just don't need those tools...

Well, you don't need a tool.. you just need a lil starting hands chart... I can build you a very basic, straight up, ABC poker one right now.. preflop Early position AA,KK - raise, call raises Middle position QQ,AKs,JJ,AQs,AJs,A10s - call big bets, raise small bets, call small raises Late position Any Pocket pair if can get in for blind.. consider raising with 10 10, suited connectors for same reason.. the higher the more playable, consider 1 gap or even 2 gap, if your on the button.. especially if it is cheap. Position is one of the main things your should consider before playing a hand... Another thing to consider is that, the less people in the hand, the more value your cards have... Defending your blinds... make sure you have something to defend with, don't just call because you think your supposed to.

I used to play with the chart before but when you get better you might want to loosen up a little and maybe run a bluff once in a while cause just playing tight wont get you all the way. You need a bit of luck and you have to know how to bluff. At least thats my opinion correct me if im wrong

I agree with ya.. I was just trying to provide a very basic starting guide... prolly won't make ya rich, but you shouldn't go broke eithre... Believe it or not, after playing several 1000 hands of online poker, you WILL be able to read your opponent, even if you have never played them before... Example of being looser.. your in the BB with 9 4 , every one folds and the SB just completes... you can raise here, depending on your stack and how you percieve the SB, most likely, he just wants to see a cheap flop.... you will know if he calls, he prolly has better than 9 4 .If everyone folds to the blinds.. the BB now has position... this is important to remember.. your cards, plus position.. ( beat up on that SB ) (( this is my 150 point post )) Last edited by Slayre : 08-18-05 at 02:56 PM. Reason: cuz im goofy

i like the idea of having an edge in poker. And i agree with you, that an edge can make the difference of a win or a loss. But is it fair to other players? If you are at a casino playing holdem.. no one gets an edge and i think that is the best way to play.

i agree with 1st post about these tools making u a totally predictable player. i also agree with Jenny about winning using your own judgement and skill. its nice to win but winning small amounts using a program would be really boring to me. for total beginners it would be quite uesful but when u learn from experience about a variety of situations its probbaly better to go with gut instincts
