One thing to keep in mind when calling raises with low pairs, is the size of the stack that is making the raise. Your implied odds are quite high if you DO flop your set - in many cases you can bust a big stack with a hand like that. If calling the raise is less than 10% of your stack, it's not an unreasonable move.
If the raiser has a small stack and/or the raise is a sizeable portion of yours, it's not a great move to call. You can find better spots to get in that much of your money.

Like AGreen, I also used to muck low-mid pairs in EP. I don't mind limping in with them now, or even calling a raise if the conditions are right, but I have to remember WHY I'm playing them. Unless I hit my set on the flop, I have to drop the hand - no matter how tempting it looks.

Default Pocket Pairs

I hate to have a pocket pair in LH. I dont play it that often. I like NL the best, I guess because you can do alot more in that game than in limit.

After the flop, your pocket pair should be higher than the board or have hit its set to make a profit in the long run. Pockets lower than tens don't make it to the river in full games.

Default pockets or not

what a dilemme

first you have to play your pockets

low or hight the result is never done

i never raise before the flop (even with aa) i think its a bonus if you hit your card but its never over until its over

i lost a lot of well pockets (with my third card on flop) now i know the rules

It's actually pretty important to raise pre-flop in some instances. If you don't raise with AA then when would you raise?

Anybody raising 4xBB and not puhsing when they have 10xBB behind imo is screaming action or a complete donk. Your pot commiting yourself and losing all of your FE in one move.

Thats an interesting post. This is a reason why I'm not a big fan of limit holdem. Pocket pairs really aren;t too strong there because everyone is chasing every possible draw they see. I'll stick to No Limit myself.

Its in the NLHE section, but the posted clearly stated that this is LHE. His mistake. But now everyone should rethink the situation, b/c its a big difference. Re-post for LHE.

To me, position matters most when I'm dealt a low pkt pair. If I'm in EP, I'll fold 66-22. If in LP, and nobody has entered the pot, then I'm RAISING. If in LP and there are more than 1 or 2 callers, I'll call too. But if in LP, and there are raises, I'll fold.

The low pkt pairs arent a very good drawing hand. Your basically hoping to hit a set to take the pot. I'd rather play a hand that has more drawing possibilities....i.e. Suited connectors JT and above are my favorites, and of course, your JJ's, QQ's, KK's, and AA's b/c more often then not, if they are the best hand PF, they tend to hold up.
