I hate pocket pairs becasuse so many people overplay them. A lot of people like to put their chips in when there are not a lot of people at the table and then they cry when they lose a coin flip. The fact is that playing 5s or 4s, you are only going to be a 55-45 favorite, which isn't strong at all.

I see people over value jacks and 10s a lot too. You have to think that your opponent could have an over PP or have 2 overs and could draw out. It's part of the game.

Yea, I plays Jacks aggressively though b/c only 3 hands can be ahead of me, and raising will weed out some of the garbage in hopes to be heads up for the flop... You can then put your villain(s) on a smaller range of hands too. If your beat, you will find out on the turn or even before it, and you can exit the hand with confindence.

I just begin again to play on ring games.
I was on a Holdem NL 0.25/0.50 table and i had JJ.
I raised 3 BB and i got called. I was a little afraid of the flop but i got a J on the turn and won $20.
JJ could be a two way hand. It's not my favorite by far but this time was a good hand.

Nice going. But if it was a LHE game, would you have called a bet on the flop?

Yes, 3 hands can beat you preflop, but you're also a coin flip against A-Q, A-K, and K-Q. As we all know, a coin flip can go either way.

Well for my pocket pairs i first have to see where i am on the table cuz if im under the gun with just a low pocket pair depending on the blinds i mite just call the blind and see what happens from the rest of the players but on a high pocket pair i raise if im under the gun becuz u are most likely going to be called by one of the players that is going after u. Second u have to consider ur chip stack compaired to others becuz if ur short stack and the big stack is the next to act u have to push it all in and hope that he doesnt have a higher pocket pair becuz then u'll have the advantage going into the flop. I relaly play all my pockets differently even if they are the same one sometimes i try to catch a flop sometimes i dont i just try to mix it up...i also have a story that happened to me just a few minutes ago about my pocket aces. well it we were 4 handed and i was under the gun i raised double the big blind hoping to get a caller and i did...flop ended up being 7, j, ace and i was ecstatic he was first to act and raised all in so i thot great im going to double up but then i saw his cards and he was on a flush draw i was hoping so bad for no spades but he caught one on the river and i lost a huge amount of my chips.... But when playing pocket pairs just consider ur position, chip stack, and the different ppls styles around u

I really believe this all depends upon the table. If you know your raise will be called be a person with an A something, tan I would raise a bit more with any PP besides 22 to 55 orAA.

However, I also like PP, the implied odds are great.

I found the first post on this thread solid advice.
I have known this before, but tend to forget at times.
Seeing it in writing hopefully has an effect.
