You may have heard that PokerStars is up for sale. The family that owns it has set the price at 2 billion dollars (yes, with a B). If the sale occurs for that price, it would be one of the biggest sales in recent poker history.

A group of RGPers got together and decided that players should own PokerStars; namely, them. They appear to be serious about the plan, and are selling shares for $1 a piece. From the group's web site:

All we would need to do is get enough players to buy up 2 Billion dollars worth of shares, and we'll be set!

Are there two billion interested poker players in the world??? There might be...they claim 168,497 shares sold already.

sounds tempting, i wouldn't mind buying like 300 shares and see what happens

but what if it doesn't fill up? does that mean i'll just lose 300 dollarS??

I heard about this yesterday and was shocked. I realize that pokerstars is probably the most successfull poker site out there and couldn't believe that someone would sell it, but I guess thats why. They have probably made a big enough profit with the site that they can hand it off, retire and not have to keep with the site thats groing so quickly. I just wish I had 2 Billion dollars to buy the site because I would love to work a pokersite like that for a living.

Honestly, I don't want anyone to buy Stars. Those that honestly stand a chance of doing so usually have crummy interfaces and less than stellar customer service. The reason why Stars has always been known as a place frequented by good players is because those are the kinds of things that good players want to see in a site. Fish don't care about the interface or how long it takes them to transfer funds, cash out, etc. I'm afraid that whoever bought the site would ruin it, and I think that fear is shared. Hence the attempt from players to buy it themselves.

It's amazing what these poker sites are raking in. To be worth $2 billion, they'd have to be earning hundreds of millions of dollars per annum or have the potential to do so in the near future, and that's after all expenses. If you ever wondered where all that rake goes, now you know!!!

2 billion bucks.. i red somewhere that partypoker's price is 3 billions (in local newspaper).. i think it is a good investment.. but what to do with my 1000$ ? i'm short about 2 billions..
