I've started to look into reading more books with all the free time I've had lately, so I was wondering who everyone's favorite author is. I know that many authors collaborate in books, but from each individual author's writing pick your favorite:

David Sklansky
Mike Caro
Doyle Brunson
Dan Harrington
Phil Gordon
Phil Hellmuth
Mason Malmuth
Daniel Negreanu
Mike Sexton

I don't read books much, but I'm wondering something here. Where is the option for Doyle Brunson. His book is probably the most famous poker book there is (The Super System) and I think he recently released the second edition of the book.

I thought I put him in there, that's my mistake. He is a good author and I respect him. I put some of the authors who had parts in the rereleased version in here but I forgot him.

I'm just starting Harrington's two-parter, and it's really good so far.

Ok, when you pick a favorite author maybe you should explain why. I like Sklanksy because he doesn't try to teach you to make reads and such, those are best learned on your own. He teaches you the numbers. When I first read his book I had never read a poker book but had only played. I could get a feel for my opponents but I didn't fully understand how to do the percentages.

I think different author have thier strength. For example if you wanted to learn more about the psychology of the game and tells then I think Mike Caro is the best there, but if you want to learn about game play then I think that Hellmuth is the best. Because he does a good job of explaning his tactics, also in his book Play Like the Pros he divids his book into beginner, intermediate and expert so you can get something out of his book no matter what level you play at.

Although I havent read Sklansky and I heard hes pretty good so I might have to pick him up some time.

Figured you'd be a Harrington-man with the avatar. What's in Sklansky's books that you enjoy ad?

I'm liking how many people enjoy Sklansky, usually people just go on and on about how Super System is our Bible and we all have to play how it says. I've already said my favorite, so for my second favorite author I'd say Harrington. IMO His books are geared more towards tight-aggressive players, so I really take from it.
