it is a question that we all must have asked ourselves at one time or another considering some of the greatest and most infamous poker players. I asked a first person perspective of a poker player named phil and he said "Phil's are poker poeple...Well, they like to lose money gambling. It's just that some get lucky and are good. (Damn U Ivey, Gordon, Hellmuth, and Lock)." I believe when he said Lock he meant Phil "the unibomber" Laak but that is besides the point. I am not really sure about the reasons for the phil/poker phenomenom, i will leave the theories up to you guys.

your right there is a ton of phil's in the poker world. Which is real strange because i dont happen to know one Phil down in Florida where I live. But i do know this Phil is a popular northern name and most of these guys do have some Northern accents from what i can tell. And it's Texas Holdem that is most played which most of them sound like they havnt even been a million miles from Texas.

I know that this interesting fact has been brought up before. In fact, there is a book out on how to beat all of these famous players. The name of the book is "Kill Phil". (Man, what a great title). It looks at each of the Phil's play style and how it is best defeated. ktb
