Default Cheats in SNG & Ring Games

Does anyone else ever fear that when they play in a sit n go tourney or a ring game that their might be some players colluding to take your money? I have played in a few sit n go's when it seems like everyone knows each except for me. In that case since they are openly speaking they probably aren't colluding, but I still get worried that I could be getting scammed.

Here is a quote from one of the moderators (nxtyear)
"except a day where i colluded with my friend playing in the same sitngo and made a 100 profit from 5 dollar sitngos... don't do that anymore don't worry, I think I’ve heard enough of the feared consequences..."

Which furthers my suspicion that this happens. Its good to know nxtyear doesn't do this anymore, but that doesn't mean other people aren't doing it. I'd be interested in knowing what the feared consequences are? My guess if you get caught then you will be blacklisted from all online casinos, but do casinos have software to detected these cheats? Sounds like nxtyear made a decent profit one day without getting caught and I hope I wasn't playing in the tournies when he and his buddy was doing this...

I signed up on a site to find out about live home-games and now I get emails from strangers about wanting to work together in micro to make profit. It's sad and all, but you know that many people out there do this.

On Poker.com my friend was playing and these two guys were talking and one of them said to follow the other. My friend sneaked into the open table and eavesdropped on their chat. They were working together, but at a low-limit open table. This was only in $1/2, but he picked them off for a good amount. They still do it and they're on his buddy list. Justice prevails.

Aren't the casinos suppose to have software that detects this? And how does your buddy pick off people these guys when they are teaming up against the table?

ALL online poker sites have some sort of security deparment to handle these matters. Of course, some sites are better than others at it. They look for patterns in the betting, unusual player activity, etc. Plus they will look into the actions of anyone who is reported to them - so if you suspect something, just alert them. Even if people aren't openly chatting on the tables, they might be using IM programs to alert each other.

They would tell eachother their hands and when they were going to bluff, etc. I suppose it's pretty easy to take them out when you know their cards and what they're going to do.

People who do this are a disgrace, an absolute disgrace. If you can't win money on your own, don't bother playing. I'm sure that these softwares aren't very good, because it would be very hard to detect and probably can only be confirmed through other players reporting them.

I'm not shocked at all that this goes on. Some people need to cheat to win. What a shame.

I am no the least bit surprised ...I dont have any friends who play internet poker so I guess it would not have dawn on me to cheat, and knowing how many sng's I have won means either I am in a room of ethical players or I have gotten the cards to take down a bunch of cheaters.

I havn't really run into this problem much that I know. Although I guess that if and well when it happens I don't know for a reason. I am being scammed or attempted to be scammed. The thing is though that I havn't really ever been dominated by someone muchless two people so I think I can play better than two or more jokers working together. I do however believe that this is a crime...like stealing basically and they should be prosecuted. The thing is that it's online and they will go un-noticed. I guess that's the risk with online poker.

Well as I said earlier today..Astros your the best. The whole table could be teaming up to get you and you'd still get em!

I on the other hand have won/placed in my share of Sit and Gos, but I also lose my fair share as well. I even at times have been dominated by players (I know its hard to believe) and my only explanation is they must be cheating, b/c if not I'd win everytime. lol

Default Online perils and pitfalls

this happens ALL THE TIME.... I have actually spotted it and twice have gotten the SNG pool redistributed due to disqualification .. as they went back and found a pattern on the 2 players playing together and soft playing each other.

Hence, my recommendations:

First DONT PLAY FOR REAL MONEY ON THE INTERNET --- besides cheating there are so many things that can happen...the other day I was in a $100 SNG, 6 seater... down to 3 ... blinds were basically: BB-half your stack, SB - quarter of your stack -- I had AA, guy was raising... I wanted to delay a little.. it was blinking, and when I went to reraise... MY CABLE WENT ON A FRITZ.. I missed the hand and finished 2nd...lol

if you want to avoid it - dont play ring games... certainly do not play for .... stay away from 6 seater SNGS... its easier for 2 people to control and manipulate a table with only 6 people. Play 10 seaters or MTT's where it is harder for 2 people to team up and control a table.
