It's the beginning of December, the weather's getting
colder, and the biggest holidays of the year are right around the corner. As
2005 draws to a close your time is running out to find a juicy online poker
tournament to pad your bankroll and your gift-giving fund - not to mention the
opportunity to give yourself the gift of playing in a live big-money
tournament. Here's a look at some of the best tournaments around the net for
the last month of the year.
Poker Stars
The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is drawing near, and satellites for this
popular stop on the World Poker Tour are in full swing at PokerStars. As
always, there is a wide variety of ways to earn your entry into one of the
most anticipated tournaments of the year.
The most direct path is to win one of the daily shootouts or qualifiers.
Double shootouts with a buy-in of $175 are held nightly at 7:15, 9:35, and
11:55 PM ET, and $5+.50 cash satellites into these shootouts run daily at
4:45, 7:05, and 9:25 PM ET. There is also one nightly direct qualifier rebuy
tournament at 11:30 PM ET with a buy-in of $30+3; $2 rebuy satellites to the
direct qualifier runs twice a day, at 6:15 and 8:45 PM ET.
The other direct cash route into the PCA is the weekly Round 2 tournament,
held each Saturday at 5:00 PM ET. The direct buy-in for this event is $615+35,
and one Atlantis prize package will be awarded for every $12,000 in the prize
pool. The number of paths to this tournament is huge - there are $80
multi-table satellites, $27 rebuy satellites, and $3 rebuy satellites
available, as well as $11, $18 & $36 double shootout sit-and-go tourneys and
$43 and $86 single-table sit-and-go tourneys.
Finally, if you don't feel like putting out any cash for a chance to win a
seat at the PCA you can always enter a Frequent Player Point (FPP) tournament.
There are ten of these daily at PokerStars. The 100-FPP tourneys start at 1:30
and 8:30 AM and3:30, 6:30, and 10:30 PM ET. The 1,000-FPP tournaments run at
1:00 and 8:00 AM and 3:00, 6:00, and 10:00 PM ET. Winners of these tournaments
will win entry into the Weekly FPP Round 2, held every Sunday at 5:00 PM ET.
Three $12,000 Atlantis packages will be awarded in these tournaments every
week.
It's important to note that you should plan on attending the event if you win
a seat in the PCA through PokerStars - you are not allowed to sell or transfer
your first seat to anyone else.
Doyles Room
In addition to the satellite tournaments for the Bellagio Five-Diamond World
Classic, the Helsinki Freezeouts, and the Northern Ireland Championships
mentioned in last month's round-up, Doyle's Room has added satellites for
three more big events to their schedule.
The first of these is the World Heads-Up Championships at Casino Barcelona in
Barcelona, Spain. This $12,000 heads-up-only tournament won't be held until
May 2006, but the Doyle's Room super satellite is taking place on Wednesday,
December 28th. Direct entry can be bought for $198+19.80, but feeder
satellites are also available. Single-table satellites come with a $24.20+2.42
entry, and daily multi-table satellites are held at 9:30 PM GMT with $3+.15
entry. Winners of the super satellite will earn entry into the World Heads-Up
Championship and $3,000 for expenses.
Much closer on the schedule is the European Hall of Fame Classic, to be held
at the Aviation Club de Paris on January 5th and 6th, 2006. Super satellites
for this event at one of Europe's most renowned casinos will be held every
Tuesday at 9:00 PM GMT. Direct entry is available for $72+3.60, but as always
feeder satellites are available. Single-table satellites cost $8.40+.84, while
the daily multi-table satellites at 9 PM GMT cost $3+.15. The prize package
for winner of the super satellite consists of the $5,900 tournament buy-in and
$1,600 to cover expenses.
Rounding out the Doyle's Room tournament schedule this month are satellites to
the World Poker Open in Tunica, MS. This major World Poker Tour event is held
at the Gold Strike and Horseshoe casinos on the banks of the mighty
Mississippi from January 22nd - 26th. Feeder satellites to the Doyle's Room
super satellite are running daily throughout December. Single-table satellites
cost $24.20+2.42 and are available all day, while daily $3+.15 multi-table
satellites run at 11:45 PM GMT. The super satellite for the WPO will be held
on January 7th, 2006, at 11:45 PM GMT. Winners of this tournament will receive
the $10,200 buy-in plus $2,300 to cover expenses.
