Here's quick rundown of the tournaments at Doyle's Room and
the scoop on a few fun weekly private tournaments at PokerStars.
Doyle's Room
Tournaments at Doyle's Room seem to get bigger every month. As traffic in the
room increases, so do the guaranteed prize pools. The biggest of these is the
$50,000 Guaranteed, a $36 no-limit hold'em tournament with rebuys. A lucky
player can get into this tourney for as little as 60 cents in one of the many
multi-table qualifiers, or for $4.20+.42 in single-table qualifiers. The
$50,000 Guaranteed runs at 8:45 PM GMT every Sunday. Other guaranteed prize
pool tourneys have doubled their worth, and the buy-ins and satellites are
some of the cheapest on the net. All these tournaments can be found on the
tournament schedule
here.
Fans of big live tournaments can win their way into the Five-Diamond World
Poker Classic WPT event at the Bellagio through Doyle's Room. Prize packages
worth $17,000 ($15,300 buy-in and $1,700 for expenses) will be up for grabs
when Doyle's Room hosts its freezeout Super Satellite on Saturday, December
3rd, at 11:45 PM GMT. There are three ways to enter the Super Satellite. You
can buy in directly for $198 + $19.80, win a $24.20 + $2.42 single-table
tournament, or win your seat in a daily $3+.15 multi-table tournament at 11:45
PM GMT. Winners of the Super Satellite will head to the Bellagio in Las Vegas
from the 12th-16th of December to take on the top pros in the world for
millions in prize money.
If you're in Europe and want to stay closer to home in mid-December - or maybe
if you're in North America and would rather travel abroad to the land of
hockey, reindeer, and ultra-aggressive poker - there's always the Helsinki
Freezeouts, held at Grand Casino Helsinki in Finland. Super Satellites to this
event are held every Thursday at 10:00 PM GMT, and there are three ways to
enter. You can buy in directly for $36+$1.80, win a $4.20+.42 single-table
tournament, or win your seat in a daily $1+.05 multi-table tournament at 10:00
PM GMT. Winners in the Super Satellite will receive a $3,500 prize package,
including $2,520 for buy-in and $980 to cover expenses. The Helsinki
Freezeouts will be held on December 15th and 16th.
Private Tournaments at PokerStars
Anyone who's a fan of Wil Wheaton or Dr. Pauly probably already knows about
the private tournaments these two internet poker stars are hosting at
PokerStars all month long. Those who don't read
Wil and
Pauly's blogs would do
well to stop in and have a go at one of their private $10+1 multi-table
tourneys. The fields in these tournaments are generally smaller than what you
find in the regularly scheduled tournaments at PokerStars, and the level of
play is a little better on the whole. The players are generally people who
read about the game a lot, and the atmosphere is much friendlier than the
average online tourney. Whoever knocks Wil out of his tournament gets naming
rights for the next week's tournament, and to cap things off the festive
atmosphere is completed with live-blogging from Wil at Card Squad.
Participants in Pauly's tournaments can win prizes each week for making the
top 3, and over the course of the month will earn points for their finishes.
The point leader at the end of the month will win an Apple iPod, and 2nd place
will receive a copy of "The Big Lebowski" on DVD. If you're looking for cheap
practice against decent competition these tournaments are a great option.
