Every month, I will take a run through the tournament calendars of the various
sites to find the biggest upcoming events. Some of these are weekly
tournaments with guaranteed prize pools, and some are one-shot deals that
generate a lot of excitement at the sites with their accompanying
satellites.
Also included are opportunities to play on television by qualifying for a
large buy-in tournament such as the World Poker Tour through an online
satellite. These tournaments award the winner(s) with buy-in and entry fee
for the tournament, hotel accommodations, and travel expense money.
Poker Stars
The largest regular online tournament prize pool is found in the Poker Stars
Sunday Million. This $200+15 event is held every Sunday at 1630 ET.
Satellites start at $3. Once a month, the buy-in increases to $500+30 to
allow the players to compete for a similar prize pool with fewer opponents.
Expect satellites for the annual World Championship of Online Poker to
be available soon. The series of tournaments kicks off September 16 and ends
October 1. The 17 tournaments combine to guarantee $10 Million in
prize pools. Buy-ins range from $200+15 to $5000+200.
Full Tilt Poker
Full Tilt’s big Sunday tournament is the $200+16 $200,000 Guaranteed
event. Start time is 1800 ET.
The Winner’s Choice tournament plays twice weekly – every Tuesday and
Saturday at 2100 ET. The $200+16 tournament awards entry ($10,200) and
travel ($1800) packages to the winner’s choice of World Poker Tour events:
Legends of Poker
(August 26-30, Los Angeles), Borgata Poker Open (September 15-18,
Atlantic City), and World Poker Finals (November 11-16, Foxwoods).
Party Poker
Party also hosts a $200+15 Sunday tournament with $1 Million guaranteed. This
event starts at 1630 ET. Qualifiers run every 30 minutes, 24 hours per day
and can be entered for as little as $3 (rebuy) or $7.
Party Poker’s daily tournaments generate a lot of entries. The “Super”
tournaments are on Monday through Thursday evenings with $150+12 entries.
The Wednesday game is one of the largest Limit Holdem tournaments available
anywhere. The Friday Special ups the price to $200+15. The Saturday night
$200+15 guarantees a $200,000 prize pool, and features 5000 starting chips
for plenty of poker action.
Doyles Room
Tribeca Network sites, of which Doyle’s Room is the most popular, are running
a super satellite on July 29 to the WPT Legends of Poker, held August 26-30
at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles. Buy-in is $198+19.80. The winner will
receive a $10,000 entry plus $2500 for travel costs.
Poker.com
This site will be running two super satellites to the WPT Borgata Poker Open
in September. The $250+25 satellites are August 12 and 27. Qualifiers can be
entered for as little as $2. Winner(s) will receive a $12,500 travel and
entry package.
Ultimate Bet
Sun, sand, surf. This will be the setting September 23 through October 1, as
players head to the Caribbean for the Ultimate Poker Classic in Aruba.
Satellites are held exclusively at Ultimate Bet. Direct entry satellites
range from $100+9 to $1000+60. Sub-qualifiers start at $3. Winners receive:
$5200 tournament entry, coach airfare for two, and eight nights’ hotel.
Ultimate Bet recently introduced tournament dollars, which replace the old
tournament entry tokens. Now a player can win a satellite, unregister from
the target tournament, and receive tournament dollars in exchange. This
allows players flexibility in their tournament times and choices.
PokerRoom
The Ongame Network sites, including PokerRoom, are the place to find the
Sunday Big Deal tournament. This 1400 ET event costs $300+20, and
guarantees a prize pool of $80,000. Qualifiers start at $8.
A single prize of at least $1 Million will be awarded to the winner of the
Poker Classic. This tournament begins September 2 with a buy-in of
$5000+200. The tournament will be played online until 45 players remain. The
players will then convene in Barcelona, Spain on September 30 to play the
remainder of the tournament live. The total prize pool is guaranteed to be
at least $5 Million, and the travel expenses (paid by the site) will not
come out of the prize pool.
Bodog Poker
Check out the Sunday 1400 ET $100,000 Guaranteed tournament, with a
$100+9 buy in. Qualifying starts for as little as $1.
Paradise Poker
Winners of the $200 WPT satellites at Paradise Poker get their choice of entry
into the August 26-30 Legends of Poker or the October 23-27 North
American Poker Championship, the first WPT event held in Canada, at the
Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls. Satellites run around the clock, starting
at $4 for rebuy tournaments.
